DCCC et al asking for donations why?
Edited on Sun Sep-25-11 02:35 PM by dickthegrouch
It just struck me reading another post, on declining donations to the Democratic party, one of the other insidious things that's occurring with the M$M's refusal to cover Obama's victories.

I get somewhere between 5 and 10 requests for donations per week either from the DCCC, or many other campaign committees, some within minutes of having succumbed to an earlier request. I am fast being nickel and dimed out of donating. Now ask "why?".

It's because the news cycle is not being fair and balanced. They are not constantly reminding us of all the good things Obama has achieved, and even worse they are not reminding us that BUSH and his cronies created the problem and that with the problem being worse than originally understood, is taking longer to cure.

The DCCC is doing us a disservice asking for our money at this time and not demanding that the M$M cover the news. I had said I won't donate until DADT and DoMA are both history. I relented when The president did all he can personally do in declaring DoMA unconstitutional and succeeding in repealing DADT.

However, I think the current donation frenzy is far worse then PBS pledge weeks, precisely because they are only weeks. I call on the DCCC to rethink its strategy.

(Spelling and grammatical errors corrected on edit).

1. Some of it may be the approaching end of the fundraising "year".
September 30th (the end of the federal fiscal year) is a cut off point for annual donation tally, iirc.

2. It's end of quarter FEC reports at the end of September
I have a real problem with this, too.
And I even get confused about who I gave what to and when. And when you do give, they just immediately bounce back an email asking you to contribute more.
Recently, I decided I would just become a monthly donor to the Obama 2012 campaign, so I would not have to ponder anything. It didn't stop the emails of course.

I usually just delete the DSCC and DCCC emails without reading them. I do donate to them occasionally (never by phone, only on the Internet), but I really resent their taking me for dumb with the red-meat headlines. In fact, I once was asked to participate in a focus group for DCCC in which they tried to see what people would respond to for fundraising pitches. I meekly suggested that what would be most compelling to me would be them telling me what specifically they would use the money for. Boy, did that ever go over like a lead balloon. The winning answers were all the sort of "how bad the Republicans are" red meat.

But guess what? I read today (NYT?) that the Obama campaign is starting a new fundraising tactic where they are going to tell donors exactly what the money will be used for. Hooray for me. I approve. Apparently, it's already controversial. Not catchy enough.

Today I got an email from the DSCC that was actually successful. It was personalized, and they told me when I made my last donation. To my surprise, it was a year ago, for the 2010 midterm elections. I thought I'd given them some between that time. So I gave again. I'm considering a small monthly donation to them and the DCCC so that I don't have to think about it all year.

4. I'm getting those calls as well. When I can, I do. And when I can't, I don't.
It's pretty simple really. That being said, I'll give til it hurts, as I've always done, even before Pres. Obama. :hi:

6. Same
(minus the "till it hurts" part, I guess). My only no-no is that I refuse to give when I get phone calls, I give online when I can. Who the solicitation comes from also matters.

8. I'm with you about "the phone calls". I'm always pleasant, and inform them
that there's no need to send me a pledge card, and that I'll go online and make a donation when it's convenient. I try to be extra nice, because I can just imagine some of the jerks they're having to deal with. :hi:

5. I told the DCCC tonight I was not going to give them more $'s
I'm mad, and I'm not going to take it any more! I'm still working and voting for progressive, democratic candidates - but I'm getting pretty picky about who does the most good with the money.

7. Your choice, obviously
But I would have thought you prefer the sound of "speaker Pelosi" as opposed to "speaker Boehner" even if purity tests are not perfectly met.
