Dear House Majority Leader,
Its not like your body of congress is doing anything. In fact, for the past 8 months, you've done absolutely nothing to help improve the jobs situation in this country. Given that, I do not care what procedural hurdles you must jump.

These are your options.

1) Agree to a joint session in which I layout a jobs plan on September 7th.

2) Don't agree to a joint session, and I'll go on prime time national TV anyway, and prove to all Americans that you simply do not care about the US economy or any serious effort to create jobs.

Its your choice.

The GOP's goal is to bring a stop to all government activity. That's what they want in almost all cases.

So for instance, when the GOP House tried to impeach Clinton, they knew that it would never pass in the Senate ... but, it ate up time. It allowed them to do little else. They don't care about resolving the contry's problems. They want gridlock.

And so, if Obama does the same, the GOP actually wins. All we get is a stand off.

The Chess analogy gets used and abused here on DU all the time. But it might be apt here.

Imagine you are playing chess against an opponent (assuming you know the game). Now imagine that the other player is not playing to win, but to DRAW.

This actually happens in high level chess. In a tournament setting, perhaps you and an opponent might play 7 games. Let's say you win the first game. You might now try to DRAW the next 6 games. And if you can, you win the tournament. You will have 1 win and 6 draws, your opponent will have 0 wins and 6 draws.

The GOP is now actively trying to win by draw. They know that the economy was a mess at the start of this tournament. Which means Obama needes a win. The GOP has decided it doesn't need a win. All they think they need is a draw. Stall, block, obstruct.

So on one hand, emotionally, I want Obama to go to the floor of Congress and literally punch Boehner in the face. And then, ask Joe Wilson (the "You lie" guy) to come up for his ass kicking.

But he can't ... we know the GOP is going to try to stop everything ... going postal actually creates a valid reason for them to do so.

Obama has to count on the American people to understand what the GOP is doing. But I will admit that as a country, we may be too stupid to get it.
