Poll question: Are you part of the backlash described in this paragraph?
Obama - If a public sector employee is able to retire at 55 with 80 percent of their wages, and the average sector employee has got a 401(k) that they've just seen decline by about 20 percent and they have no idea how they're going to retire, and they're feeling burdened by a lot of taxes and they don't feel like the public sector employers are making any adjustments whatsoever to reflect the tough economic realities that are facing folks who are not protected, then there's going to be a natural backlash.

1. There shouldn't be any difference
in retirement plans. Everybody, public or private, should have the same basic retirement from their employer and SS. Then, you can save for whatever addons you like: IRA, Roth IRA, real estate, etc.

13. Barack doesn't think that. He thinks those that do have a pension ought to give something in it up
because of a backlash.

Two completely different things.

One is lifting all, the other is bringing down one group and not raising the other.

7. Yep, when they came into being in the '80s, my husband & I
looked at each other & said: now they are tying our retirement to the success of corporations, so they can manipulate EVERYTHING about our futures. Took retirement responsibility off corporations, plus there will be big pots of money that can be stolen.
Looks like we were right. :(

10. No, the model should be fair wages and fuck 40ks
That was and is the biggest cop out ever...

I have no pension, and after years of living without investment into one, I see that I'm hurt, but it's not the guy with the pension's fault.... He or she are a member of a labor union.

Remember the force that built this nation. Don't be fooled into turning against it. If anything, make it stronger.

15. We're not jealous, we need to have food and a place to live.
So whoever wants to peddle "shared sacrifice" can shove it up their asses with their head.

16. This is a blatant attempt to split the Working Class.
..and it is working.
Any "backlash" I feel is toward those who are using these tactics.

Solidarity!

17. Obama is a tool of the coporations
He is against unions and the working class. He has sided with the banksters and now he no longer even pretends with his pro-austerity, shared sacrifice, privatize schools, free trade, right wing bullshit.
