If Obama doesn't win in a landslide...

Considering the opposition, at least as it now stands:

Michelle Bachmann - a looney tunes who rewrites history

Rick Perry - a W political clone who's also a secessionist

Mitt Romney - corporate shill, flip-flopper

and if Ron Paul gets into the race, we've got the Pretty Boy Floyd of Politics.

So if Obama doesn't win in a landslide, shame on him, shame on us, and shame on vampire policies that suck the lifeblood out of Democratic principles and American values.

(Oh, and watch how the coded racism gets ratcheted up as the season progresses.)

1. you assume all voters are sane and possess a reasonable level of intelligence
Edited on Tue Aug-16-11 02:44 PM by DrDan
remember, Rand Paul won in 2010 and Michele Bachmann is in her 3rd term.

2. The election
is Obama's to lose. It is up to him, his campaign and his policies that will decide if he is supported by enough voters or not.

3. Obama will not win in a land slide.
Edited on Tue Aug-16-11 02:52 PM by Ozymanithrax
Because his real opponent is 9%+ unemployment and an economy between being on life support and recession. I don't think it matters which suit he runs against.

It will be a hard close election, which will open up all kinds of easy ways to cheat.

18. It will still wind up in his favor. All the democrats have to do is
propose a job creation bill. The republicans will vote against it. Right in time for the election.

People will finally get fed up with gridlock. Democrats win big.

4. 40% of the electorate would vote for the Easter Bunny over Obama
On the flip side, the opposite 40%, i.e. us, would vote for the Easter Bunny over any Republican.

It's those stupid swing voters in the middle who are the real problem.

19. Well, to be fair, the Easter Bunny is good on the stump
and strikes a lot of folks as the kind of straight shooter who could get things done.

but I'm not sure the country is ready for an Easter Bunny presidency.

6. The Republicans just can't come up with a sane candidate
Even if the economy is worse, voters are going to realize that the insane cannot do much to help.

7. In 2008, President Obama won with a larger percentage of the vote than any POTUS since LBJ.
Edited on Tue Aug-16-11 03:09 PM by ClarkUSA
He also "became the first Democrat since Jimmy Carter to win a popular-vote majority." Furthermore, "More whites voted for Obama than for the very white John Kerry or Al Gore."

I expect President Obama will try to win again this time. What are you doing to make sure that happens?

9. It's much easier to vote for Candidate Obama than for President Obama.
There's a world of difference between "Yes We Can" and "Well, I'm not them".

12. Sure, I know 'them'. The point is, Candidate Obama had people standing
in line for hours for the chance to vote; President Obama will have people checking the Weather Channel to see if it's worth the chance of getting rained on.

16. Well, I won't - I haven't missed an election in 35 years.
But you know there will be people who will.

And when I do, I will know I am not 'building a bridge to the future' but 'sticking my finger into the dike'. Not an exciting prospect.

He'll need to win in a landslide to win at all, i.e. counteract rigged voting machines.

The prospect of another reTHUG administration is too frightening on multiple levels to even contemplate.

10. Now he has to win in a Landslide?
He should .... sure ... but there are parts of the right and parts of the left who absolutely HATE him.

Sure, their reasons for hating him are separated by 180 degrees, but they share on bipartisan point, they HATE HIM.

And neither of those groups on the right or the left, sees their position as even remotely extreme. Each believes that they are correct in their reasons to hate him.

And the "liberal media" is more than happy to let those two totally opposite views of why to hate Obama, explain to everyone else, why everyone should also hate Obama.

Who cares which set of reasons one picks to hate him!!

Feel free to pick the right wing framing, or the left wing framing ... doesn't matter which you pick, just so long as you HATE him.

This nonsense is the only reason we discuss the potential for one of the GOP whack jobs to become President.

17. It will require Democrats to have good congressional candidates
It doesn't do any good to have Obama win if he doesn't have support within the ranks. And it doesn't do any good us if congressional candidates are unable to push Obama to do the right thing.

20. He will not win in a landslide, and probably by less than what he did in 2008.
Regardless of the lunacy of the repukes, there will be states that will never elect a Democrat (and someone who does not have lily white skin).
