Enough already with this 'Shared Sacrfice'!
My local taxes are up ... we haven't had a raise in five years ... my health care premium is way up ... tuition for my college kid is up ... school fees for my high school senior are up ... gasoline is stuck at $3.40 or higher ... and on and on and on.

There are millions under and unemployed; millions who have lost their homes, etc.

What the hell is this 'shared sacrifice' that I hear Pres. Obama talking about?

The working and middle class HAVE sacrificed.

Don't be asking us to give up anything more while the corporations and the uber-wealthy are doing better than ever.

Enough already with the 'Shared Sacrifice' rhetoric!

1. Shared sacrifice means the middle and lower classes sacrifice
and the rich share in the money taken from them.

I don't see shit coming from all these yowling elites telling everyone else to sacrifice...

I said -- when the ADMINISTRATION takes a 25% cut across pay and gives up their pensions, we'll talk. Pretty darned clear, wasn't it?

9. So, the unionized public employees who work in the administration, too?
You do know a very large number of government workers are union, no? And that this extends to the workers in the administration?

Maybe Obama will donate his salary to charity like JFK did. Then again, maybe not. What will his sacrifice be?

I think it's outrageous that Clinton gets this kind of money for 8 years.

He's a widely published author. He never has to work another day in his life if he doesn't want to.

27. He is sacrificing more than most, he is sacrificing his integrity, his empathy for
Edited on Tue Aug-16-11 08:31 PM by Dragonfli
the weak, the sick, the elderly, the working class that is suffocating in debt just trying to keep a roof over their heads and food on the plate.

His sacrifices are very severe, to cause harm to the least among us to subsidize yet more wealth for the obscenely wealthy, and to do so by lying to those that will be hurt by his support for GOP policies that he then signs into law is no small sacrifice.

To lie to those you would harm (some of whom will die)
To do so simply for the love of money, or the love of those with money, is to sacrifice your very soul.

Without a soul, a man becomes a psychopath for that is what it means to have no soul, no empathy, no love for others.
He is sacrificing all that is supposed to make a man more than an animal.

I can not support that in any way.

8. This is the sick joke of "shared sacrifice:"
WE make the sacrifice, and the TBTF's divvy up/share in those spoils.

oozing with disingenuousness. :patriot:

13. Um... I think you're missing the point of this talking point.
Point is, all should pitch in...INCLUDING those at the top end of the wealth spectrum. They are the ones who the teabagging Repugs are trying to shield from any sacrifice at all but are the most able to pitch in. It's really fucked up, and that's what POTUS and the Dems are highlighting.

14. Oh, thank you!
I just have to shake my head at the missed points! The president was NOT asking the everyday person to sacrifice more. He realizes we have already sacrificed, and was pointing out that the mega-wealthy have sacrificed nothing. He was pointing out that THEY need to share in the sacrifice as well.

15. They need to stop telling us about it and start putting it into practice.
How about starting with some shared sacrifice by congress and the president? I haven't heard one proposal about rolling back any of their benefits. How about linking their retirement eligibility to social security eligibility? How about putting them on a little belt tightening? Cut back their staffs. Close down their gym. Reduce their operating budgets. Roll back their medical coverage. And last but not least how about a limit on the budget for Air Force 1? It's time for them to get a little taste of the medicine they prescribe for the rest of us.

17. Modeling is one of the best ways to demonstrate something
you want someone to learn. Therefore, it will be ignored by WH advisors or Obama outright. I'll wait to be proven wrong with actions and not pretty words. This could take a while.

18. The middle class and the poor don't need lectures about participating in sacrifice.
If Obama thinks we do, then he and his campaign managers are terribly out of touch.

19. Ugh...
He's not "lecturing" anyone, especially not the middle class or the poor.

If my DU friends, who are supposed to be politically astute, are having a tough time grasping the meaning of this meme ("shared sacrifice"), it's probably time for the communication guys in the administration, and the with the party, to come up with a new way to sell their plan.

20. Sorry but he is lecturing the poor and middle class.
Every time he talks about reforming entitlements he's telling the poor and middle class we have to give more. That's the shared sacrifice he's talking about.

21. Then he should give that speech to those at the top end of the wealth spectrum
And then engage in some LEADERSHIP in Washington.

A lot of us have nothing left to share or sacrifice. I've been shared sacrificed down to the pennies in the sofa cushions. There is nothing left.

16. Who is Obama's argument supposed to work on?
I see two sides: the working class and richie-rich class. Obama tells both sides they have to sacrifice or someshit. How do both sides react? The working class feel they've sacrificed for some time and recognize the richie-rich class has had nothing but fucking TAX BREAKS for half-a-generation. I'm sure they're ready to ask how high when the gov't says jump. If anyone can be trusted to share sacrifice, they know it's the richie-rich class. :eyes: Please.

Meanwhile, the richie-rich class sits back with their buddies and draw up racist doodles of Obama as they laugh themselves until they soil their smallclothes. Here's a free piece of knowledge about the richie-rich class: they will do Jack and shit about sacrificing for the good of the country and Jack left town. However, please feel free to link to Buffett telling the world how the richie-rich class needs to pay more. As a matter of fact, everyone chill the fuck out! Obama's got this! :sarcasm:

Is he kept out of the loop and reality by his self-serving toadies or does he just not care? Neither speaks well of his character.
