Did anyone notice how the Republicans have stolen one of Obama's campaign talking points?
And how they've been running with it like the hypocrites they are, after not hearing a peep from them about it all during Bush's 8 years?

The talking point I'm referring to is one that really impressed me during Obama's campaign. It was when he mentioned how we really have to start "living more within our means." How refreshing it was to hear him say that. At the time he spoke of this, I think he was making reference to helping people keep their homes, but at the same token, how we should all start learning to live within our means instead of buying homes, etc that we cannot afford.

Now, after decades of silence during the Reagan and Bush years, the Republicans are running with this meme as if they've never spent a dime of money that they didn't have in their bank account. Now that the shoe is on the other foot, all you hear from those liars lately is how we need to live within our means. Somehow, it seems that the Republicans always get the best of us when it comes to the war of soundbites.

1. This is a traditional right wing talking point
and yes when Bush was in office they simply neglected using it. Now, that a Dem is in the WH, they are going back to their traditional talking point slogans.

2. "living within our means" is GOP dog-whistling for...
"Cutting entitlement spending and justifying it as seeking a balanced budget."

Obama is enabling GOP framing. Again.

3. That was a way to appeal to conservatives
I's back in to 2008 campaign by using this talking point, but yeah doesn't carry weight now that the Obama Administration has increased the deficit. Of course many Republicans are exaggerating how much the Obama administration has increased the deficit, the fact is that it is true.
