I'm just wondering....
If Boehner maintains that he "got" 98 percent of what he wanted in the debt deal after weeks and weeks of ugly, haphazard, irresponsible brokering of raising the ceiling....

Why is every one insisting that this is the Obama Debt deal?
He did not write it.
It was not what he wanted.

I think the downgrade blame should be planted firmly with the guys who were smiling that this was 98 percent of what they wanted.....Heaven knows, if they had gotten 100 percent, the ratings would have collapsed even further.

And I still maintain, that the hostage taking itself, which deliberately raised a big question mark of whether or not the US would default on its debt obligations, eroded confidence and faith in the US enough to have consequences.

So, the Obama haters that comprise the Tea party want him out SO much they would break the faith of the US in order to get him out - this downgrade has their fingerprints all over it. They own it - because they did all they could to make government stop working altogether.

1. As I have tried to point out, over and again. A Predident any
president gets the credit or blame for anything on their
watch. Especially when we have a party who all but
remains mute on every issue.

Who was out the gate last night when the News came down??
Therefore, who established the Narrative.

HE WHO CONTROLS THE NARRATIVE CONTROLS THE ISSUE.(Or WINS)

2. Obama insisted on it
Obama is extortable and the GOP know it.

Ultimately it is the fault of GOP fiscal ideology, but Obama shoulders much of the blame for insisting on idiotic compromises when the economy was in dire need of bold action.

4. Do tell us what you think might have happened had there been
no compromise.

5. The Republcans would own the whole thing
Obama would have walked away looking bold.

Obviously the 'compromise' model is a complete failure. Look where it got us.

6. So Obama should have allowed a default?
Really?

That's what the Tea Party wanted.

And Obama wouldn't look so bold with the economy crashing around him thanks to a default.

7. You insinuate that there were only two options
Downgrade or default? Sorry, not going there.

All he had to do was refuse to deal with extortionists and used the 14th amendment if needed. More than likely it would not have been needed because calling their bluff (thus dropping the whole mess in their laps) would have sent them scurrying to the hills with their tails between their legs.

Problem is, Obama does not take a bold stand on anything, even when doing so is the only rational course. To Obama, the process (compromise with ruthless extortionists) is more important than the outcome.

8. You are wrong.
Using the 14th amendment would not have stopped the default, or the down grade.

Both would have still occurred. The House would have simply sat on its hands, and done nothing. Why even vote, let Obama own it.

The only difference is that Obama would be paying the bills while the fight over the constitutionality of that action was fought in the courts.

The GOP's goal is to shut the entire government down. And a constitutional fight, as we learned under Clinton, is a great way for a GOP majority to go to work each day and do nothing.

The economy would collapse, and Obama would be blamed. And if we're really fortunate, we get a GOP President and a GOP Senate next.

And they pass Ryan's insane budget bill.

3. The MSM covers the GOP
and the Obama detractors here will happily maintain that it's the President's fault without regards for the realistic alternative.
