According to a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Tuesday morning, 77 percent of voters believe that leaders in DC behaved mostly like spoiled children, while just 17 percent say that most behavior from the nation’s capital in recent days has resembled that of “responsible adults.”
Those low marks for the behavior of the deal makers come as a majority of Americans — 52 percent — express disapproval of the agreement to raise the debt ceiling and cut spending based on what they know about it, while 44 percent approve of it.
Of those surveyed, 65 percent said they approve of the planned spending cuts in the deal, while 30 percent disapprove. Half of those who disapprove say the cuts will go too far, while the other half say they won’t go far enough. Sentiments on raising the debt ceiling were far less enthusiastic, with 51 percent of Americans saying they disapprove while 48 percent said they approve.
Among those involved in reaching the agreement to raise the debt ceiling, President Barack Obama rates far better than members of Congress from either party.

Congress, though, does much worse, with just 14 percent of Americans saying they approve of how it is handling its job, while 84 percent disapprove. In January, 26 percent approved and 72 percent disapproved. In CNN, Gallup and USA Today polls, Congress’s approval rating had never fallen below 18 percent.
Forty-three percent of those surveyed give congressional Republicans the most credit for the debt ceiling agreement, while 34 percent give it to the president and congressional Democrats and another 18 percent say both sides were equally responsible.
