"The Republicans are sociopaths and Obama is a weak president."
Words spoken not from some liberal blogger or Cenk Ugyur or pulled from an anonymous Democratic Underground/Kos/FDL poster, but quoted from a co-worker of mine, an older gentleman who's more independent than Democrat. I've encountered similar sentiments from quite a few other regular, non-political people I've met.

Despite any spin or dubious polls claiming otherwise, the average non-Republican American who's been following current events is quite aware that Obama has merely managed to enable the Republicans so far. Tonight's grotesque and completely unnecessary "grand bargain" was the culmination of a mess entirely set-into-motion by Obama's own cynical appropriation of the GOP's hunger for giant spending cuts.

People out there know what's going on.

2. Weak is apt
But the people voted to change congress to republican. And this is what they voted for?

Did your friend vote for this?

6. He voted for Obama, but he doesn't consider himself a Democrat
More like a Gerald Ford/Jimmy Carter middle-of-the-road voter.

"The Republicans are sociopaths and Obama is a weak president."
"The Republicans are sociopaths and Obama is a weak president."
"The Republicans are sociopaths and Obama is a weak president."

There that's enough for the rest of the week.

7. That nails it.
"The Republicans are sociopaths and Obama is a weak president."

I think that is a very good description of political reality in this country on August 1, 2011.

Of course, it hurts more for Democrats and progressives because we had such hope that Barack Obama was going to be the change that the nation so desperately needed.

We expected the Repuglicans to be crazy and extreme ... no great surprise there. But the weakness of Obama ... well shucks.

Too bad for all of us.

9. That would be an interesting statement
If this "co-worker" really existed. That sentiment sounds exactly like something only people on DU and other leftist sites would say.

Interesting also that you refer to DU as a "leftist site". Unintentionally reveals a bit more about yourself than you probably realized.

13. You still are not right
This is a leftist site, you'd only have a problem with that word if you were right-wing. Leftist is not a bad word, but maybe it is to you for some unseen reason, hmmmm....

17. It's not considered a "bad word", yet right wingers use it as a prejorative?
Thanks for proving my point. Very sporting of you.

22. I'm more in line with your take on it
Why didn't Obama insist on a clean vote on the debt limit back in December when he negotiated with the Republicans on the Bush tax cuts extension? If he's not as cynically duplicitous as his record has clearly shown so far, then he's got to be the leading contender for Dumbest Oval Office Chump of All-Time. But I don't think he's stupid.

24. Obama is not weak
He's a corporatist. I don't think terms like Republican and Democrat have any meaning anymore so I won't call him a DINO or whatever, but he's clearly a corporate hack.
