Just got a call from DFA (Dean's Org) asking for Donations.
Edited on Fri Dec-18-09 06:38 PM by FrenchieCat
As I have donated in the recent past to push for healthcare reform.

She stated that Gov. Dean Supports President Barack Obama....
I told her that this is a good thing.....cause what I don't want is for
progressive to start getting all emotional and start helping the Republicans
defeat us as an unintended consequence. That we have to care more about
our entire agenda, then getting mad and frustrated simply because there
aren't 60 senator who will vote for the Public Option.
That I'd rather get something through to be improved on,
than nothing at all...cause if there is no bill,
there can't be any improvements on something that doesn't exist.

In the end I told her, I care more about 30 million people,
than I do about getting even 1/3 of what "I Want".

She said I don't have to worry about that, because Gov. Dean
supports what Pres. Obama is doing, and that at this point,
it is truly up to us.

Since I'm not 100% sure as to what she really meant,
and because I don't want to spend money to defeat a bill
that I think we need to pass,
I told the gal to send me a pledge card, and I would see what I can do
shortly after Christmas.

Perhaps she was saying DFA......and I heard her wrong.
She was a bit more emotional than I am used to dealing with.
But she certainly used Howard Dean's name like 20 times.....

She was on fire, although slightly incoherent!

They use email all the time though.

7. Nope. She just called.
She gave me her name, although I don't want to put that on the Internet.

Did you donate.....cause the first thing she said was that I was one of the best supporters!

And why do you think I would need to make up a lie about a phone call?

18. For one, you don't even know the name of the organization.
Two, I've been a member and I've contributed many times. Hell, I worked for Dean in 03 and 04.

They do not call people on the phone and ask for money, they don't have the staff for it. They use emails.

23. This may have been a scam then......
I thought she initially said OFA....
but then she talked about Howard Dean so much.....
She was acting like he was running for office.

I'll keep my eye out to see what kind of mailing I get,
because that's what I'm supposed to receive....some kind of pledge card...
and she did know my address.

but I have donated before to both organizations, so color me confused,
but I don't think that OFA would have made mention of Howard Dean's name
multiple times, so I'm thinking it was DFA.

Safety safety safety. If YOU want to buy, donate, you can initiate the call and make sure you are talking to the real deal. If they call you, you have to take a stranger's word for it and that seems a fool's errand ;)

Frenchie, I'd honestly contribute to OFA if I were you, because I have a feeling you might be disappointed with that donation sometime in the future.

Dr. Dean is independent of the President and you react badly when people say things about the President's policy you don't like.

Now, I'd give to DFA before I gave to OFA.

I intend to stay that way. I am a reasonable person until my party leaders send out bloggers and spokespersons to bash one of their one who is pointing out things we need to know.

I donated $100 to DFA last night because I know exactly what Dean is doing....he knows it's a bad bill and is trying to make it better.

Stop using the word "emotional" and "progressives" negatively.

20. Frenchie, this is what I think is going on:
Howard Dean has always supported President Obama. Obama was one of the original Dean Dozen. President Obama, from what I recall, envisioned a health care plan that included a public option. He campaigned for that, and he held many town hall meetings outlining how that would work.

I believed him then, and I believe him now.

The problem is (as Dean has pointed out) that there are several senators who are funded in large part by insurance and drug industries. Lieberman is one example, but he's not the only one. These senators are not supporting the president; they're putting their personal and career priorities over his.

39. I think she's a hardcore activist, that's all......
she talked about the fact that she had had a stroke not that long ago.
She also told me she remembers how Carter didn't get the support he needed from Congress.
Her voice sounded young, but her words sounded like she had been doing this for a long time,
and she sounded fearless.....determined, or whatever way one might want to intepret it.

I talked calmly my views to her, and she said she was glad that I was so knowledgeable.

She was actually quite effective......because she went from $10.00 a month, to me telling her
I didn't know about that, to a $10.00 donation, to her upping it to a $50.00 one time donation
by the time the conversation was over.

I told her that I admired Dr. Dean because he has always been reasoned, rational and knowledgable,
and that is why I had signed up to his website to begin with.

But DFA has never called me for money, either.

I think you would know the NAME of the organization
that you supposedly REGULARLY donate to.

Now what IS the truth is that when the DCCC,
DSCC and now the DNC call me, I politely
(unless they argue with me) tell them that
I only donate individually to progressive
candidates and representatives or to DFA
and MoveOn.

My money is too precious to EVER risk it
falling into the hands of a DLC member,
either through party channels or an
organization like Emily's List.

35. Seems like a Fabrication
Been a member since day 1. Was actually the very first person to contribute to Howard Dean on the internet and my fiance spoke at one of his rallies in LA because of it.

Did receive an e-mail from them today which said the following:

We just got back the numbers from DFA's joint national polling with the Progressive Change Campaign Committee and the results are striking:

Voters Revolt!

Only 33% of voters approve of the Senate's current plan to pass a bill without a public option but with a mandate forcing Americans to buy insurance.

The good news is the poll shows Democrats the roadmap to victory: 59% of voters still support a healthcare reform bill with a public option.

Senators must be warned. They must know what's at stake.

DELIVER THE POLL RESULTS PERSONALLY TO THE LOCAL OFFICE OF YOUR SENATOR TODAY

The Senate is going to be intensely debating this bill through the weekend and votes could come at any time.

We must deliver our message to them as quickly as possible to make sure they don't miss the news.

If you go after work and your Senate office is already closed, deliver it anyway. Leave it in their inbox, post it on the wall, push it under the door -- whatever it takes (that's legal) to make sure they get the message.

America is counting on you. Thank you for everything you do.
