Pennsylvania Fundraising
Has anyone looked at the breakdown of donations for the 2012 election so far? Obama's fundraising in the Philadelphia region was 76% to 24% (ratio, Obama to McCain, 2008 election)...while so far this year it's been 53% to 47% in Obama's favor, against Romney(largest GOP fundraiser). Adding in ALL the GOP candidates, and they outraised Obama in the Philadelphia region for this latest quarter.

Thoughts?

3. Non issue.
I grew up in Philly, family is still there.

Most of Philly isn't going to do anything until next year.

Romney being close is a weak indicator, and the fact that ALL of the GOP candidates combined beat Obama means even less.

Philly and Pittsburgh are NOT voting GOP.

5. I Def Don't think they will vote GOP
Just wonder if there is an enthusiasm gap. It's scary. I'm in North Carolina (Raleigh area, where Obama needs to win) and hopefully I'll be able to help bring home North Carolina in case of a Pennsylvania loss. Virginia + North Carolina can make up for Ohio + Pennsylvania loss, and as I mentioned in another post, are more likely to be won by Obama.

Also, it feels so good living in NC now that it votes blue at the federal level. It makes it seem so much smarter :)

8. I live in Cary.
Been here since 1990.

And it's been great to see NC go blue at the federal level, and get Bev in the Governor seat, and replacing Liddy Dole with Kay. All great.

PA was and still is, Philly to the east, Pitt to the west, and Alabama in the middle. And the part that is Alambama in the middle won't go for Mitt anymore than they went for McCain, probably less. The Mormon thing will kill him.

But, I agree we should take nothing for granted. I am constantly telling my friends and family up there how terrible the GOP is. And my family in friends on the Jersey side are echoing that view with Christy as Gov.

Dems in PA voted for Spector because he was always in the middle. Tomey isn't. And the coast of PA will see that too. Its was Santorium got spanked after one term. People woke up and said, "what?!!" And they kicked him out.

we have to watch PA, and Philly ... but I think the Dems will hold there, and make other states battle grounds that should not be ... like Texas, AZ, so on.

Its no lock, but I don't the recent money situation inside PA will matter much at this point. The Dem machine in PA is strong and will kick into gear when we know exactly who to fight.

9. I'm from Cary too!
I also live in Cary! I'm in the Preston area.

And I agree with you on pretty much everything, my concern is not that PA democrats will SWITCH to Republicans (a few moderate ones may, but not in the Philly area) but that they simply won't show up. It's a given that the 2008 energy is simply not there.

10. True, but recall that "Mr. Excitment", John Kerry, won PA.
Honestly, I think racism is his biggest issue in PA going forward.

I'm a white guy in my 40s and lots of the guys I grew up with are still in that area. They are blue collar. And they think that minorities get all the breaks.

I get together with these guys about once a year. And one thing I notice is that if an old friend of ours (a white guy) has been passing bad checks, or stealing from family or friends, they see it as an isolated event.

If one of them knows a minority who did the same thing, its because ... "they all do it".

That may be tough to overcome. But I think I'm winning, at least with my group. One of our good friends now lives in Jersey. And he has an autistic daughter. Jersey had very good programs for special needs kids. Christy cut them. And all of my friends know it and are angry. And so I've been reminding them that given the chance, the GOP would cut off all social programs for their kids and parents.

They seem to get that.

11. Christy Will Help in Eastern PA
That man is so awful. I have family in NJ too, and they complain about him constantly. I think his influence will effect eastern PA quite a bit and help with keeping people from voting Republican - hopefully.

With unemployment in the high teens for blacks, I don't see how anyone could think they get "all the breaks." There's definitely a lot of social programs to help them, and affirmative action, etc. - but in the end they still have the lowest employment, income, live in the worst areas, highest incarceration, etc. If anything they need more support right now.

4. Allegheny County and Southeast Pennsylvania
are Democratic Country. The GOP is NOT going to win in these areas.
