38. +1. Kind of stupid thing to say considering he's been President for 2 and half years.
Not surprised that the apologists love the comment.

2. Then why continue keep 70,000 troops in Afghanistan....twice as many as when he took office?
And continue to spend billions upon billions of dollars in the longest war in US history?

17. In a year and a half, we will still have 70,000 troops there as we continue to spend loads of $$$$$
Twice as many troops as when Obama took office. The war will continue to set records as the longest war in US history.

I'm supposed to be happy?

18. After his tripling of the troops, drawing down only a third.
Sure, I can be happy for those 33,000 that are ostensibly coming home, over the course of a long year. But, still profoundly disappointed in where we are and where we will still be for at least the next 3+ years,

26. Bush-the-idiot ignored AF to focus on Iraq which is why troop levels were so low there in 2008.
Obama refocused to AF and troops increased as would be expected. Now the primary goals have been accomplished so he is reducing the troop levels. Sounds reasonable to me.

8. I understand what a speech is. It buys time by propelling the pretty propaganda.
It gets a few clapping for awhile and gets many people from recognizing the reality.

While the rhetoric was warm, the reality is he just sold us a lost war for at least another 3 and half years. Not much to cheer about, really.

Still no real exit strategy.

40. I don't think you know what "the bully pulpit" means.
Announcing a weak withdrawal of troops from an unpopular, costly, unnecessary war is not using the bully pulpit.

45. The bully pulpit refers to supporting and pushing legislation.
This was the announcement of a unitary executive decision. A tepid one at that.

BTW, who are the "serial whiners"?

46. It's the content of the words and the action that matter
When one is just reiterating and justifying what is an increasingly unpopular (and increasingly wasteful and needless) policy then it's a misuse of the bully pulpit.
