Jon Huntsman to announce run for presidency next Tues
Edited on Tue Jun-14-11 11:03 AM by TeamJordan23
MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, a Republican who until the spring served as President Barack Obama's ambassador to China, is running for president, officials said Tuesday.

The Republican planned to formally announce his intentions June 21 at Liberty State Park in New Jersey, with the Statue of Liberty in the background, these officials familiar with Huntsman's thinking told The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity to avoid publically pre-empting Huntsman. He was set to suggest as much later Tuesday in an appearance in New York City.

Huntsman, a little-known two-term governor from a conservative state whose moderate stances on some issues and service under the Democratic president could inflame the Republican Party's right-leaning base, enters a GOP presidential field that's taking shape by the week.

Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann announced her candidacy on Monday in New Hampshire during a seven-candidate debate in which Huntsman did not participate. He had said he would not participate in debates until he made a final decision about a White House run.

Even so, his entrance into the race has been all but certain for weeks.

3. Why New Jersey? Ronald Reagan, of course.
Huntsman's campaign kickoff was set to begin next Tuesday at the northern New Jersey park where President Ronald Reagan began his 1980 White House run, the officials said, noting Huntsman worked as a staff assistant in the Reagan White House. From there, Huntsman would then travel to New Hampshire and Florida, a perennial battleground and host of the 2012 GOP nominating convention. From there, he planned stops in his home state of Utah and then in the early caucus state of Nevada.

12. Sad thing is that Huntsman Family doesn't need Lady de Rothchild's money...
They are a dynasty. He doesn't need to even hawk money from Hedge Funds, Wall Street or the Saudi's.

That's why we Dems should be worried. He's rolling in money!

14. I'm not worried about Obama getting money...He will have a War Chest!
BUT...Huntsman has Bush/Reagan/Kissinger credo's and more family money than our President can get out of Wall Street. The Huntsmans are a dynasty...the well will never go dry.

15. With Citizens United, any Repub would be extremely well funded, so...
I fail to see how it matters which one is nominated. The Repubs always had, and will always have deeper pockets.

16. True...but, Huntsman's money is "family." He might use that
against Dems and his Repugs on the right. I think he's more of a worry to us for 2012 than the "Tea Party Road Show" that the MSM loves to pump up and make us "scared of."

They said it couldn't be done, but look where we are. :hi:

Jon Meade Huntsman, Jr. (born March 26, 1960) is an American politician who served as the 16th Governor of Utah. He served in the administrations of four United States presidents and is a candidate for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination<2>.

Huntsman is the son of Jon Huntsman, Sr. and Karen Haight Huntsman, and was raised in Palo Alto, California. He participated in the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) as a youth and earned the organization's highest rank, Eagle Scout, at age 15. He served as a missionary for two years in Taiwan and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in international politics.

Huntsman worked as a White House staff assistant for Ronald Reagan, and he was appointed by George H.W. Huntsman was elected Governor of Utah in 2005 and won re-election in 2008 with nearly 78% of the vote. During his tenure, Huntsman cut taxes by more than $400 million—the largest tax cut in the state's history—and Utah was named the "Best Managed State in America" by Pew Research Center. While governor, he also served as chairman of the Western Governors Association and on the Executive Committee of the National Governors Association. On August 11, 2009, he resigned as governor to accept appointment by Barack Obama as the United States Ambassador to China.

Huntsman has received six honorary doctorate degrees, and in 2007 he was awarded the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award by the BSA. He is a founding director of the Pacific Council on International Policy and has served on the boards of the Brookings Institute Asia Policy Board, the Asia Society in New York, and the National Bureau of Asian Research. Huntsman is married to Mary Kaye Huntsman, and they are the parents of seven children, including two adopted girls from China and India.

9. WIki Leaks is not associated with Wikipedia in any way.
Even the tenuous tie they *did* have, using wiki-based software, was ended years ago.

Wiki, BTW, is a Hawaiian word for "quick".
