(CT) Ex-Rep. Chris Shays Interested in Senate Bid

Former Rep. Chris Shays (R-Conn.) told Roll Call he is "very interested" in launching a Senate bid to replace retiring Sen. Joe Lieberman (I).

"We are looking into it very closely," Shays said Friday, noting that he had some personal issues to work out first.

The interest from Shays, a moderate 10-term Congressman defeated in 2008 by Rep. Jim Himes (D), comes the same day Hartford attorney Brian K. Hill, another Republican, announced his Senate candidacy.

"As a former active duty military officer and JAG attorney, I took an oath of office to defend the constitution of the United States," Hill said in a written statement. "I am running for the United States Senate because my oath still stands."

Good luck with that. He might manage as an Independent but I don't see the Teabaggers comingout to vote for Shays in a primary.

5. Don't you get it? We don't need any additional Republicans in the Senate.

The Democrats up for reelection will have a tough time as it is. We want to hold on to the Senate. No hand-wringing here. Just getting to work and making sure people are registered and vote. You should do the same instead of needlessly attacking fellow Democrats.

republicans but it's not like Shays is going to run unopposed, he won't even be unopposed for the nomination. At the very least the usual crazies will come out of the woodwork.

Writing "were screwed" in a post... that is pretty much the definition of hand wringing, especially this far away from the GOP nomination.

Chris Shays is contemplating running for one reason only. The GOP in CT is in total disarray, they don't have anyone lined up that has a shot in hell of taking that seat so they try to pull one out by grabbing someone with a bit of name recognition. There are people actually begging Linda McMahon and her husband to toss another 150 - 200 million down the toilet to run in this campaign.

Until they actually nominate someone there isn't any reason to get all worked up over it.

7. Yes, he's moderate, but at the end of the day, he votes more often with the Rethugs,

added to their majority. He's not as bad, but that's relative given this environment.

I love the CT GOP they have to keep recycling the old losers because there isn't anyone credible willing to actually take on the poor chances of a run in the State.
