Auto manufacturers need to start promoting their electric cars

in these times of high gas prices surely the gov and auto manufacturers should be pushing alternative vehicles?

2. If government wants to help

then it can issue a moratorium on a 'mileage tax' for about a decade or so. That would give the infrastructure the time it needed to ramp up for electric-only cars.

4. Not that simple

The mfr's are not making any money on electric cars (with the possible exception of the $100K Tesla) - so the more they sell, the more money they lose. This is not uncommon with cars still in 1 st gen.development. You gotta build enough so that they get in the hands of a good range of end-users - but you have to price them so that they will sell at all.
