on a regular basis.

I posted this in another op yesterday..but the more I thought about it, the more we need to push back as a party against the devolving republicans.

My son pointed out 2 years ago what was happening with the republican party and that it would most likely devolve in this fashion..a libertarian sect (the small government wing, kill the medicare and social security) and a values sect (get the gays and kill abortion doctors) group.. And that will be it for the republican party for 15 years till they clean out their bedbugs.. For a party so young, this has to be the third time I think they have started eating their own.

The thing is, we Democrats are always pegged as the ones who cannot hold it together.. and it is just the opposite.

Like most things.. we are better with the economy, with defense, with being a united party

3. Dems are initiators. Republicans are competitors.
Competitors need a leader. They can appear to outpace the leader, but it's always a dependent relationship. It is the same behavior an infant uses.

Initiators are independent, and spontaneous. It's how we built this country. It's also why Dems are like herding cats. It's a good thing.

I'm reading Beyond Success and Failure, by Beecher. It's not about politics, but as I read it I see the parallels.

4. Some one recently described how a dying tree will suddenly bare fruit
in large quantities. I can't recall the term for it.

But the idea goes like this. There is a tree that produces fruit, but it is dying. And so each year, its producing less and less. Suddenly, it has a season in which it produces more fruit than in any recent year. Then, the tree dies.

That last season of fruit was the tree's last gasp. It had a surge for no reason whatsoever. Then it died.

This might be what the GOP is going through. Beat bad in 2006, crushed in 2008, then a sudden burst in 2010 (for no real reason), and then, perhaps, death of the party.

In the case of the tree, the theory is that the tree is trying to spawn as many new trees as possible before death. The splintering of the GOP you describe might be the same thing.

5. Interesting analogy (re: GOP and trees)
Except, in the case of the GOP, nearly everything they bear is toxic. :puke:

6. True.
The GOP is more like a weed that strangles all vegetation around it.

8. That would be an apt analogy as well
That's certainly how I feel about their ugliness.
