There is a lot of good information in that article..

but can we get a grip on this,, including some of our pols... there were two teams sent, for to deal with Bin Laden if he was killed, and one to deal with him if he were captured.

Also if you read in there..the President stepped in, to make sure there was enough cover for our seals if things went wrong.

EDIT for excerpt at end of article:

"In planning for the possible capture of Bin Laden, officials decided they would take him aboard a Navy ship to preclude battles over jurisdiction

The plan, officials said, was to do an initial interrogation for any information that might prevent a pending attack or identify the location of other Qaeda leaders.

“There was a heck of a lot of planning that went into this for almost any and all contingencies, including capture,” one senior administration official said."

1. Their concern for the safety of our guys is secondary to their need to feel righteous.
That is my take on it.

6. Looks like order was "Kill or Capture" not "Kill." Good.
For a while, it was not clear and there was heated dialogue on DU around the wisdom of a "Kill" mission.

8. Bin Laden didn't surrender fast enough.
And the SEALs weren't going to take chances given the potential for suicide-vests and who knows what. Can't say I blame them for shooting bin Laden before he had the chance to twitch.

Yet the whiners here won't stop back-seat quarterbacking the mission.

9. Agree ... given everything else we know ... if he blinks funny ... Bu-bye.
He'd be alive today if he was in a tiny spider hole.

13. it puts to rest the idea that there's no issue with assassinations
And the idea that capturing him was out of the question.

Both of which I'm hearing an awful lot of here at DU.
