President Obama on Mother's Day...
Barack Obama

Mothers are the rocks of our families and a foundation in our communities. In gratitude for their generous love, patient counsel, and lifelong support, let us pay respect to the women who carry out the hard work of motherhood with skill and grace, and let us remember those mothers who, though no longer with us, inspire us still.

2. Lovely. I'm sure he realizes he probably wouldn't be the man he is today,
without the guidance and dedication of his mother and his grandmother. The men in his life aren't mentioned as being an influence as much as the females.

I'm sure both women are in his thoughts today.

Add Michelle, and this guy has struck it rich with the women who have had a profound effect on his character and demeanor.

3. His grandfather also figures prominently in his memoir
I picked up "Dreams From my Father" after hearing the guy speak at the Democratic Nat'l Convention, and remember being impressed by how completely his grandfather embraced him, in spite of what was, back in the early 1960's, his "socially-unacceptable" mixed race.

But in essence, you're right - the guy is a product of strong women, and certainly married one. I am constantly impressed by Michelle, and how her mom moved the family from blue collar to the White House.
