Nearly ten damn years! I really didn't think we were ever going to get Osama.
I was wrong.

I've been comparing bin Laden to Pancho Villa for all these years. After the sacking of Columbus New Mexico we sent General Pershing into Mexico to get him. Pancho eluded him for nine months then Pershing's troops were called back. After 7 years Villa was finally murdered by Mexicans. I though the same fate would befall Osama. Our resolve and intel were better than I thought. I was wrong.

But that still does not justify our war in Afghanistan.

1. I didn't, either, really. I hoped. But I thought bin Laden might already be dead...
having been caught by a drone or some other fighting, or that he would die in that way, no one other than AQ knowing that he was dead.

But I DID think that OBL would die a violent death...or maybe his dialysis machine would malfunction and he'd die that way.

But I really didn't think the U.S. would exterminate him. I thought we'd never find him. Boy, was this a surprise or what????

2. I thought he was dead a long time ago.
I agree... time to pull out of Afghanistan. What are we staying for?

3. I was one of those assuming he'd died of his kidney failure years ago.
Operating on the theory that it would have been hard for him to get dialysis while on the run from an international manhunt, even one as disorganized and ineffectual as the Bush folks' conducted.

A doctor told me yesterday, though, that it's entirely possible for someone to get dialysis outside of a hospital, so maybe assuming he'd died from lack of treatment was shortsighted.

5. It is funny and well done..
But it's not really a good reflection of Obama's cool and calm personality.

6. My theory: Bush backed off the attack because of some special favor
to a bin Laden request in Saudi Arabia. It was a family thing. Big family and not all of them disliked Osama.

That might also be a reason why he doesn't want to be part of a photo op with Obama. Doesn't want to look duplicitous.

7. My SigOth thinks that bin Ladin was too useful
as a bogie man for the right so they just didn't bother looking.
