Oh.....Okay.....Um.......are we sure that Hawaii is really a state?
I mean, sure, the "official" history says it joined the Union on Aug.21, 1959, but has anybody actually seen the document admitting this so-called "Hawaii" as a state? And don't try to pass off a copy on us, man! We're onto you, man! WE WANT THE ORIGINAL DOCUMENT, MAN!!!

8. I don't think any island can be a state.
Hawaii is made up of several so we would need to see the documents for each island. They need to be certified by an official from a "real" state (not an island). Alaska doesn't count, either because it's too close to Russia. We should probably discount all the non-colonial territories, as well, just to be sure.

It's like floating debris. But...it is closer to real 'merika than Hawaii, so we'll give 'em a pass.

Of course, we white kids didn't know how much the Hawai'ians got fucked throughout their encounters with the new USAmerican Empire.

30. Can't be ... Hawaii is an ISLAND!!!!
As everyone knows, States have to touch other states, or touch other land masses that touch other states.

Islands can be PART of an existing State, but the Island in question as to be VERY CLOSE to the State that it it part of.

That is why the Florida Keys (islands) are part of Florida, but Puerto Rico is not a state, nor is it part of Florida. It's too far away.

Just like Hawaii.

39. True story. I was going to New mexico for vacation and
a woman I worked with asked me to bring her back a couple of coins because her son collected foreign coins, I came back, went to work and gave her a quarter a dime and a nickel. She said what's this? And I said currency from New Mexico. New Mexico is a state. She was surprised.

42. On a related note, I was a child when Alaska and Hawaii became states
and I struggled with the question of how Alaska and Hawaii could become states when they weren't attached to the other 48.

Of course, I grew out of that worry, but perhaps some of the right-wingers haven't.
