My 5 year old just explained the Lincoln Assassination to us
trying to name Presidents for homework

My Wife: "And who was the President in the tall hat with the beard"

Josie:"OH! Lincoln! I know what happened to him"

(My wife and I look at each other in anticipation)

Josie: "He was doing this play and a man walked up behind him and shot him because the man didn't know how to use his words.... the man liked slavery and President Lincoln didn't like slavery but he (the man) didn't know how to use his words...he did a bad thing"

2. Congratulations to your school district! (Or is Josie homeschooled?) What a concept.
A five-year-old can understand it; maybe there's hope for us yet.

4. I love these type of little experiences that people share here at the DU
Thanks for sharing.

:toast:

It is nice to hear the words and perspective of children. It sounds as your son is going to be a bright young man :-)

Cheers to the parents for being there for your son and helping him with his homework!! My wife is a teacher and you wouldn't believe how many parents don't. It makes all the difference in some children. Keep up the great work.

:-)

8. My daughters (5 and 6) were just talking about this the other night.
Being President's day, the 6 year old had to write sentences about Lincoln for her class. She was asking us about him and was very upset about his being assassinated. Kids are very smart, aren't they? smarter then we give them credit for.

9. Yes they are
the father of Josie's best friend (and supposed future husband) posted on my Facebook that they were in Richmond's finest theater last weekend and his son said "This is the theater where Licoln got shot".
