Happy Birthday Ronald Reagan. You really fucked up America!
I was going back over my bookmarks and found this gem from kpete.
It so nicely sums up the true legacy of Reagan.
Thought some of you may want to be prepared for the right wing Reagan-palooza this weekend.

Thank you kpete for doing this.
Truth will be in short supply this weekend.

1. Give the guy a break!
Turns out, he didn't really know what he was doing...

One represents a higher species, intelligent, capable of compassion and critical thought, and exhibits problem-solving skills and the other is Ronald Reagan.

5. One Word - "Aids" - Thousands died while Ronnie refused to discuss it.
One Word - "Aids" - Thousands died while Ronnie refused to discuss it. Would not even utter the word "Aids".

This clown's "shining city on the hill" obviously had a "No Vacancy" sign out for millions of Americans.

Biggest failure he had--though there were many. Ask Ollie North about the evidence he destroyed.

13. Yeah, that's the one that upsets me the most.
All you have to is watch "And The Band Played On." And then there is one of my favorite movies, "Philadelphia." In the early 90s I was an advocate for persons with disabilities, and we really had to work to catch up because of where his administration stalled. Reagan totally does not deserve respect because of his and his puppet masters' reaction to that one issue.

6. Ok, I'll say one nice thing -
His library/museum in Simi Valley is worth seeing, mainly because you can see an old Air Force 1 as well as presidential automobiles, helicopter, etc..

Ok, that's enough nicities, Reagan truly screwed up America...Can you imagine if Bork would have got on the court, how much WORSE things would be...

9. I live ten minutes south of the Reagan library
I wouldn't waste the gas to go see it. I saw his hearse go by my apartment, that's about all I want to see of Reagan.

I do love his son Ron, though.

11. Fuck the Reagan library
I live right next to Simi Valley and had to go there on a field trip in elementary school and be subject to all the bullshit propaganda in that place before I was 10 years old. That library is basically an indoctrination camp for all the youth in the Conejo Valley who are forced to go there on field trips at a young age.

10. The funny thing is Reagan would be teabagged if he ran for President today.
Say what you will about him - and I have! - but this is a guy who said his hero was FDR and raised taxes dozens of times. Y...eah.

12. I always wondered why the RW zealots despised the...
"Hollywood Elites", until Reagan became part of the equation. After all, he divorced his first wife to marry a Grade B actress known around town for her expertise at pleasuring males through oral sex, (somehow, that suddenly became "bad" when Clinton was involved in a similar imbroglio).

Then again, he was the consummate bad actor and read the script given to him by those that ran things behind the curtain. Reagan was remarkable for his laziness, kind of a bush precedent, and he was far from bright, even before Alzheimer's began to take it's toll; (for the record, I would not wish that disease, or any other, upon anyone...well OK, maybe the clap for Reagan since he made those horrid, "your dick will fall off if you get laid" during WWII for the Signal Corps).

One thing came out of those eight years that could be considered Progressive, the Earned Income Credit, which has helped many families with children move up a rung or two on the ladder. In spite of that, just about everything else he did was bravado and bullshit. Kids lost meals in schools, the whole "welfare queen" crap, his disdain for those with HIV/AIDS, his own set of "Banana Wars" that killed a lot of people and made us look like we did little more than set up puppet regimes in tiny countries.

All things considered, he was a pompous ass, and Nancy thought she was the Queen of the US. (Caveat, Nancy has since come out favoring some relatively progressive ideas, and I have to give her kudo's for shooting down the ridiculous idea of putting Reagan on the dime, taking FDR off of the coin).

Reagan was a failure as a president, a human being and was cold, even toward his children and step-children. He was a joke, possibly a good candidate for one of the worst presidents of all time...(bush will take that "honor").

What a resume, a crappy actor, a crappy Captain in the Army, never leaving Hollywood but portraying himself as a "war hero", a "family values man" that cheated on his first wife before divorcing her for Nancy, a crappy governor that nearly bankrupted California, a really crappy president that set the road to bankrupt the nation, and nearly brought us to nuclear war with some of his ridiculous outbursts.

We're moving into the period where history will truly start to judge him, the historians are at work as I type, it always takes time to see the effects of a prior presidency...and he will be scorned...but, as I stated above, bush will beat him on the race to the bottom...Buchanan was terrible, but he will finally be pushed out of the "worst" spot.

Yes indeed, Reagan really fucked up America.

15. I do not understand why Reagan is put on a pedestal by the right
Edited on Tue Feb-01-11 08:41 PM by golfguru
Federal budgets nearly tripled during his 8 years. Teabaggers
should despise Reagan for that.

Reagan put tail between his legs and ran from Lebanon soon after
the military barracks were bombed. The Neocons should despise him for that.

Abortions did'nt even slow down during his 8 years. The religious fundies
should despise him for that and nominating Sandra Day O'Connor to SCOTUS
who ruled for keeping abortions legal.

Instead Reagan is the most admired recent president by the right wingers.
Goes to show you the old adage is so right...you only remember the positive
and forget the negative of people dead and gone.

20. Yeah, Reagan is kinda in that awkward in-between stage
He sounded like Ron Paul in the 60's, then became a hardline Israel supporter by the 80's. Pro-military, yet not so much where he involved us in long wars. Hated taxes, yet raised them. Opposed the MLK holiday, yet signed it anyway.

Personally, I think he would have been a little more Teaish, but George W. Bush pushed him the neo-con way as much as he could.
