Feds Estimate Deportation Costs $12,500 Per Person. (($140B to deport them all)
WASHINGTON (AP) — A high-level immigration official says it costs $12,500 to arrest, detain and deport each person removed from the U.S.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement deputy director Kumar Kibble has announced that cost at a House subcommittee hearing. Wednesday's hearing focused on whether the Obama administration is doing enough to round up people working illegally in the U.S. ICE deported almost 393,000 people from the U.S. in 2010. At $12,500 per person the cost to remove them was almost $5 billion.

An estimated 11 million people are in the U.S. without proper documentation.

Deporting Undocumented Aliens would cost $140 Billion using ICE's math. I honestly think that is the way out of the "No amnesty" trap for Republicans who want to satisfy the vociferous portion of their base on the issue, but also reach out to the Hispanic population who could be moving beyond their grasp

Charge undocumented workers $250 Entrance and permit fee and charge their employees a sponsor fee. For migrant workers who want to come here in the future the pay for their credentials at the border.

1. Well incarcerating felons is much more expensive so deporting criminals makes a lot of sense.
Isn't that the target of the deportations?

3. True. Sounds like it could do with some streamlining.
I get being humane to all people, but affording them all the rights of citizens seems a bit much. What defense is there for someone here illegally?

8. "There's a cheaper way to stop drugs in the U.S."
"Put the users in jail!"

Not. Gonna. Help.

As long as we've got wealth on our side of the border, and there's poverty on the other side of the border, people are going to cross to the wealthy side, and because of the wealth disparity, there's going to be someone who'll hire them simply because they're cheap.
