Predict the Promises of 2012 Campaign Pres. Barack Obama
Okay, this is very parlor game but ... I thought it would be a good exercise. What campaign promises do you see Pres. Barack Obama making?

I think he will promise to make the "Bush Tax Cuts" permanent. It is just too Clintonian to resist.

Do you think 2012 Campaign Obama will resemble his 2008 counterpart?

2. There are some things he can no longer campaign on,
so I'm not sure. And I doubt he will mean a lot of what he will campaign on.

3. Much like the '08 promises.
Followed by "and this time I mean it".

6. Well let's see...

Pres. Obama, according to PolitiFact, made 506 solid campaign promises in 2008.

In two years, he's kept 134 of 'em. He's compromised on another 41 - which should be given a half, right? And broken only 34 promises. Beyond that, 74 have stalled due to congress and 221 are still in the works.

That's a pretty damn solid success rate for a president, wouldn't you say?

But you're right - he just walks around breaking campaign promises left and right. Give me a fucking break!

Some recent campaign promises Obama has kept:

Open "America Houses" in Islamic cities around the globe

Create a military families advisory board

Invest in electronic health information systems

Make permanent the Research & Development tax credit

Invest $50 billion in auto manufacturing facilities for fuel efficient vehicles

But that ain't good enough, right?

overseas to kill and be killed at the behest of international corporations?

So no, it isn't good enough.

You certainly didn't forecast any new promises you think he may be making.

There is obviously no arguing with you. You clearly don't recall any part of the 2007 and 2008 campaigns where Pres. Obama promised to expand U.S. forces into Afghanistan. You might not agree with that decision, but it's something he laid out there when he campaigned and if you voted for him knowing that was an option, then it's your own damn fault.

As for promises in 2012? I don't know. I'm not Pres. Obama or his team.

But if he succeeds at keeping those promises at a rate he kept his promises in 2008, I'll be one happy voter.

11. What does that mean?
Sometimes this place makes me laugh and when the corporation stuff gets going is when it's at its funniest. It's like a broken record.

12. Likely oil corps. What, you think we are in Afghanistan still
because of terrah? The last CIC has admitted that was why we invaded Iraq, I can only presume that is why we continue to hold a prominent military presence there.

Apparently you are okay with that.

Since you only seem interested in belittling and sneering at my concerns, I don't see the point in engaging with you in discussion any further.

.... that we've gone from "I'm mad at what the President did" to "I'm mad at what the President may do!" (generally speaking of course.)

15. He will promise...again...a big carrot to the gay community
Maybe ending DOMA ('cause we all know it's not going to end before 2012) or passing ENDA.

It seems there's always a big promise to the gay community to get us out to vote.

16. Recycle the incomplete/broken/stalled promises as listed in Politifact (see post 6)
close the hundreds of military bases in the dozens of countries, bringing all the troops and their families home. Spend the $ currently being used for war and/or foreign aid on American aid.

And as to the recycling of the old promises, as post 3 said "And this time I mean it."

19. Clearly the campaign message police
have been deployed.

Don't worry overmuch it's not like we all have actual choices out there at voting time. Those of us who are civically minded will vote regardless and not Republican. I guess some of us here will just have to resign ourselves to understanding the moratorium on critical political discussion and seek it elsewhere.

20. In the highly unlikely event there even IS a 2012 campaign,
I predict he will promise nothing. In fact, I predict he will campaign on nothing. The campaign will consist of pure rhetoric, a listing of his so called accomplishments as if they are valid, lots and lots of mainstream media coverage of Obama with smiling younger voters and babies, and not one single concrete proposal. With pops in international locations.

Of course there will be a campaign.

28. So sorry sir
Please excuse all of us neanderthals for daring to criticize the great and powerful Obama, I always seem to forget that it is completely irrational to hold presidents to their word and expect them to fight against the powers that be. How silly of me to forget that if you criticize Obama that automatically means that you want a republican to be president. I will never again speak an unkind word about our amazing leader because to do so would mean I am actually a secret republican intent on destroying the democratic party. Thank you so much for clearing up all the confusion on this thread.

25. He'll be like, "No, SERIOUSLY. NOW I'm totally going to kick some ass." And everyone will be all,
"WOO, ENDGAME!" And either he'll get elected and keep on the corporate road, or he'll lose. The end.

He hasn't really accomplished any of them, so he still has plenty to choose from.
