'Only a more civil and honest public discourse can help us face up to our challenges as a nation...'
(The president understands that it is not just civility that matters in public discourse, but honesty--something, which is essential, and yet, has been sadly been lacking from Republicans and their right-wing echo chamber--who apparently believe the end justifies the means. )

“If, as has been discussed in recent days, their deaths help usher in more civility in our public discourse,” Mr. Obama said, “let us remember that it is not because a simple lack of civility caused this tragedy — it did not — but rather because only a more civil and honest public discourse can help us face up to our challenges as a nation, in a way that would make them proud.”

1. It's far more fun to hate and insult. We ALL need to just grow up. (n/t)

2. Our President
He was the calming voice through all of this. Politically he comes out smelling like roses, this has RW pundits scrambling today.
