U.S. Chamber of Commerce President Pleased With New Tone From White House
By Kevin Bogardus and Peter Schroeder - 01/11/11 09:33 AM ET

The president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce used a major address Tuesday to praise the White House’s tone on business, but said his organization continues to worry about excessive regulations impairing economic growth.

In his annual State of American Business address, Chamber President Tom Donohue said the economy is picking up steam and is in much better shape than a year ago, but remains fragile and uneven.

"Last year, we worried about a double-dip recession,” Donohue said. “Today, we are cautiously optimistic recovery will continue and pick up steam as the year progresses."

Donohue said the tax package agreed to by President Obama and congressional Republicans in December should help grow the economy and will give “a significant boost” to jobs.

“There are many unanswered questions about regulations, taxes, and other policies that must be addressed in order to unleash aggressive hiring by the private sector,” Donohue said.

4. tone, schmone
the Chamber is pleased by the record corporate profits, which were achieved while the Chamber and the White House were supposedly at odds with each other.

Regardless of what Obama or anyone was saying, this White House has been a very business-friendly one from the start, based on its policies.
