How Obama should continue to WHOOP ASS the Pukes at political chess in 2011.
Edited on Fri Dec-24-10 10:53 AM by RBInMaine
The big mistake of the incoming PUKE class is they think they have a great national TeaRadical mandate to undo the healthcare bill and gut SS and Medicare. THEY DO NOT ! The midterm election in MANY instances in fact REPUDIATED the radical TeaBagger candidates. This election was about an enthusiasm gap between the parties (which reduced somewhat in the endgame but was still certainly a factor) and indies shifting back to the Pugs mainly out of economic frustration and they always take it out on the majority party. The public has NO new great love of the Pukes, we are essentially a CENTRIST nation and not a TeaRadical nation, and they want ACTION that moves the country forward. They DO NOT support PERMANENT taxes for the rich, and they want MANY of the provisions of the health bill. If PUKES make the HUGE error of misreading the election, don't understand that Americans want POSITIVE ACTION and WANT the Prez to succeed, then they will set themselves up for a serious fall in 2012.

Obama needs to continue to drive a stake into their heart as he has done in the lameduck and put them in positions where either they must deal or fucking DIE (politically). And he needs to do it by putting together his OWN policy proposals, get powerful bi-partisan outsiders to support his initiatives (as he did with DADT, START, and the tax bill), and then take his ideas CLEARLY AND FORCEFULLY PUBLIC and gain public support with them. It will be necessary for the President to adopt some centrist-type positions on some issues (and I know that won't always sit entirely well with many on this board), but they would still be left-leaning enough for most Dems to get behind them. If he does this on his initiatives (especially budget matters), then convenes bi-partisan legislative summits to hammer out the details, he and Dems will WIN BIGTIME if RePUKES still continue to say no even to POPULAR and relatively centrist compromise proposals.

Americans want POSITIVE ACTION and they DO want the parties to COMPROMISE. They didn't elect R's to merely obstruct. There is no great new love of the RePUKE party whatsoever, and Americans will throw them out IF they don't deal on proposals they see as being fair and good overall for the nation. The Pukes DID NOT get a far-right mandate in the midterm, nor did they get one to merely obstruct. If they try that, and if Obama and Dems play it right and take the initiative and message to the people this time and STAND UNITED, then they WIN these policy arguments and will have a great 2011 and 2012. They need to get IN FRONT OF THE BALL as they did so well in the lame duck.

The message is, "Go ahead PUKES. Refuse to deal. Refuse to compromise now after all the accomplishments of the lame duck which are VERY popular out in the public. Go ahead, and make my electoral day !"

1. They folded at the slightest resistance
They folded at the mere thought of having to stay and do extra work. Their resistance is pure phony bluster.

4. If only the Dems had started calling their bluff two years earlier
Instead of continually punting on first down, we would have gotten everything we wanted and more.

5. and spend a bit of time
publicly talking about their accomplishments instead of expecting the American people to figure it all out by themselves.

The idea that Obama and the Democrats accomplished nothing is bogus.

14. Leadship starts at the top, and we all know who is at the top of the
party. It doesn't help when Obama starts by weakening the party's negotiating point by surrendering key parts of legislation before the debate even begins.

13. Who are you talking about?
Obama's tax cut deal that reneged on his campaign promise?
Obama selling the payroll tax holiday as a DEMOCRAT GOAL?

Or was it Obama dealing with the republicans while cutting out the Dem's altogether....was that the fold?

I think when it comes to economic principles - Obama shows his favoritism of GOP ideology...and any public talk of resistance to that is phony bluster.

But, jaded, as I am, I will wait until the State of the Nation address and see what he proposes. If he brings up setting up seperate accounts to offset Social Security - then he is just another Bush, whoring for the favours of Wall Street.

3. please ...
do you REALLY think that the "tea party movement" will truly break ranks with their real party affiliation, the Republican party, which fronted them all the money and exposure they got?

They'll likely justify and rationalize every billion wasted on Republican stuff, as long as a single penny doesn't go to someone who really needs it ...

6. You are probably right
but one can hope that they will become just as disillusioned with those they put in office as the left of the Democratic Party seems to be. Maybe they will stay home in 2012.

8. President Obama has the veto pen
They can pass all they want but he does have the final say.

When the Americans start seeing the things the Republicans will do in the next two years the Repugs will find themselves in the position of actually having to do what the American pubic wants.

11. The point I was making is this
They don't have to repeal anything ...
they control spending ... and budgets ...
President Obama doesn't write the law or bills
all he can do is sign or veto ...

12. I agree
I believe when they choke off spending to critical needs that impact the entire country the people will finally get it. The Republicans are already talking shorter work weeks and shorter work days. I think we need to make sure the public understands this and expose them for what they are which is party first and America last.

9. Unfortunately I don't think he'll have much success with the new congress.
Meaning, no political chess in sight. Even if you don't think he plays political chess, we can't deny that obstruction will make up his entire next two years.

10. I hope they DO manage to undo the Health Insurance Company Enrichment Act.
Edited on Fri Dec-24-10 12:48 PM by Laelth
I agree that there's no great love for the Republican Party out there, but I also think that the Health Insurance Company Enrichment Act was an unconstitutional disaster and that it would have been better to do nothing.
