PPP: Scott Brown more popular than John Kerry in MA / Deval Patrick most improved
There's no doubt the politician who improved his own image with the voters the best across the country this year was Deval Patrick. One of our Massachusetts Senate special election polls in January found his approval spread at 22/59. The poll we did there earlier this month found it at 45/45. No one else in the country can match a 37 point improvement in their net approval over the course of 2010. Bev Perdue, I know North Carolina's not Massachusetts but that's probably someone you should have a chat with at the next DGA shindig.

-Another note from Massachusetts- Scott Brown trumps John Kerry as the state's most popular Senator. Brown narrowly edges Kerry on the straight up approval number- 53% vs. 50%- and blows him out on the approval spread front. Brown's is +24 (53/29) while Kerry's is +7 (50/43). That's not any indictment of Kerry- his numbers are well ahead of the curve- but just another metric of how popular Brown is.

3. No, I identified it as a Public Policy Polling (PPP) which has a democratic reputation

though it also has a pretty good reputation for accuracy. I also provided a link, so you shouldn't have to asked if it's a Fox Poll.

5. Brown has been treated to good press without any mention of his bad votes
while Senator Kerry is constantly harassed by the Boston Herald over everything he does and is greatly ignored by the Boston Globe to make room for fluff stories about Brown. But... the BG is getting wise to Brown and is beginning to report on Brown fairly.

7. Sad, but a stark reminder
To those of us who would think we live in a largely progressive nation in which it is only the greedy, corporatist collusion of elite politicians that prevents us from accomplishing the "people's will." If the people of Massachusetts "like" an obstructionist Senator who has voted almost exclusively with his conservative party ... well, the "people's will" is hardly progressive. And that's in Massachusetts.

8. Brown
Part of the reason I suspect Is Brown has been able to paint himself as a moderate, and gets good press. He really Isn't a moderate.
And Kerry's numbers are lower because he Is Liberal and has more Republicans In MA against him.Now If more Dems realized Brown
Isn't as moderate as he tries to pretend his numbers would go down.Brown could have a tough time In 2012.Assuming teaBaggers don't
primary him out(If he were to endorse Romney Palin supporters would vote against him just for that) he will face a General Election
Instead of special election where Obama will almost certainly carry by a good margain. And he may face a better opponent than last
time.

9. These are actually the lowest Brown numbers I have seen
His press has been far better than he deserves and Kerry has been attacked near constantly. (He was completely swiftboated (yachted??) this summer - even though he and Teresa never did anything wrong there. )

Kerry's numbers here are higher than they were in late 2007. However, in the same poll, against the strongest possible Democratic or Republican challengers, he beat them by 20 plus points - and in the real election he won by 34 points.

Mathematically, there is a problem taking those numbers to say that Brown is most popular - clearly there is an overlap of at least 3%. It is possible that all 3% if asks which of the two they prefer might prefer Kerry. (I know I am a Kerry person - but this is a logical mathematical thing that I hate no matter who the people are. Some may remember that people did this with the Obama and Clinton approvals, but in the only head to head match up - it wasn't close. Here, I doubt there is a MA Republican who would say they approve of Kerry, many Democrats do say they approve of Brown.)

11. Brown more popular than Kerry in Massachussetts? Unbelievable. A teabagger
more popular than a Democrat in Mass. blows my mind.

13. How Did We Lose Ted Kennedy's Seat?
I know Joe Kennedy has baggage. But I don't believe Scott Brown could have beat him, especially in the wake of his uncle's death.

16. Right you are, 20% progressive, 40% center & 40% conservative.
But those are national numbers. Mass is different.

17. Brown isn't popular with the people--he's popular with the newspapers.
And where do you think Joe Retard in MA gets his news? Yep. Brown's a sham and he's gonna get embarrassed in 2012 when a good, well-funded, hard-campaigning Dem comes along.
