Pelosi says House will vote Wednesday on 'Don't ask' repealBy Jordan Fabian - 12/14/10 04:37 PM ET
The House will vote Wednesday on a standalone bill that repeals the military's ban on openly gay service members with the hopes of forcing Senate action this week.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced on her Twitter account that the House will take action one day after the "Don't ask, don't tell" repeal bill was introduced in the lower chamber.
"The House will vote on Rep. Patrick Murphy's standalone #DADT repeal bill tomorrow-Senate action on #DADT is long overdue," reads her tweet.
The standalone bill is widely seen as the last chance Congress has to repeal the ban before the Republicans take control of the House next year. The lame-duck session could end as soon as the end of the week.
But Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Tuesday threatened to keep the upper chamber in session after Christmas if work on key issues is not completed before lawmakers leave Washington. Repealing "Don't ask, don't tell" has been a top priority of the Obama administration.
