GOP uniting behind Jordan in KS 03
Former Kansas state senator Nick Jordan is emerging as the odds-on favorite to become the GOP nominee for the seat of retiring Rep. Dennis Moore (D-Kan.), one of the top Republican pickup opportunities in the country.

That’s because one of his strongest potential primary opponents, state senator Jeff Colyer, announced he would not be running, and offered an enthusiastic endorsement to Jordan this morning.

Colyer, an outspoken social conservative who served with Jordan in the state legislature, will now be working as Jordan’s Johnson County co-chairman.

“I am grateful for the support and encouragement of so many friends regarding this race. I love public service and enjoy campaigning, but now is not the right time for me to be a congressional candidate,” Colyer said in a statement.

“However, the issues facing America are too important for any of us to sit on the sidelines. That’s why I’m proud to endorse Nick Jordan. Nick is experienced, honest, and effective. He has the right background and values to succeed. Nick can unite this district and win for the right reasons. He will make an outstanding congressman.”

Colyer’s decision to get on board with Jordan’s campaign reduces the prospect of a Republican civil war in the district, which has plagued party prospects against Moore throughout much of the last decade. In many elections, the Republican primary pitted a down-the-line conservative against a centrist – with the winner emerging bloodied for the general election.
