Backwoods Update: The Democrats' Christmas Party
The county Dems had our annual Christmas party last night. It was by turns a depressing and invigorating night. Our local Assemblywoman and state Senator, both of whom lost their seats last month were in attendance, and each got a standing ovation.

The people at the party were the hard-core people, the ones who phone bank and canvass on the streets. They were, as far as I could tell, unanimously disenchanted with their President. Some were saying that he needs to step aside in 2012 in favor of an actual Democrat. Nobody looked forward to a Primary challenge, but neither did anybody sound like they were going to go out on a limb for him.

By and large, people seem to have given up on seeing their interests advanced or defended at the national level. There was a lot of talk about local grassroots work, particularly in terms of establishing two-way communication with local “special interests” such as the elderly and the teachers, finding out what their most active concerns are, and building local campaigns based on those identified local concerns.

2. My husband wants to quit being precinct chair
He is so disgusted. He spent days canvassing votes in other states in 2008.

.... well, shoot them the bird anyway.

Oh, what I wouldn't give to have even a Blue Dog for Christmas. Having a bunch of progressives who aren't getting everything they want from the President really isn't all that bad, trust me. ;)

6. The usual.
Feingold, Grayson, Feingold, Kucinich, Feingold, Dean, Feingold, Franken, Feingold, Sanders, Feingold, and I think somebody said Feingold.

And, as a reality check, nobody things Russ would either run nor have a chance in a national campaign because he's too…well…honest. And he has never shown signs of wanting it badly enough to do what you have to in order to get it.

5. They'll be happier when Obama wins strongly in 2012
and perhaps brings in more Democrats again.
