REPUBLICANS Defined
Edited on Sat Nov-20-10 03:48 PM by FrenchieCat

Republican

(as of January 20, 2009)

re·pub·li·can (r-pbl-kn)

....a major political party, which will control much of Congress next year, possibly undermining the strength of the country -- on purpose, in public, without apology or shame -- for no other reason than to give themselves a campaign advantage in 2012.

3. It's funny, because they said the EXACT same thing about Dems in 2006
In fact, many arguments I have had with republicans wind up with them BLAMING the democrats for the financial crisis, claiming the republicans tried to pass financial reform, but were blocked by the evil Democrats in congress.

This IS partly true. The republicans did try to pass financial "reform" which was blocked by the democrats, mainly because their type of "reform" favored the wealthy corporations and stopped lending programs meant to assist the poor/middle class.

One can EASILY argue that the gridlock on this issue between 2004->2007 led to the crash of the economy. (It certainly played a part). Republicans claim that this was done "on purpose" so that the democrats would have an electoral advantage in 2008.

I don't believe that. I believe the democrats were, for a change, actually sticking to a set of principles.
