Finally saw "W" - there is one good part
The part where it's election night 1992, & George HW Bush (played by Jamie Cromwell, aka Robert Carradine's dad in "Revenge of the Nerds", lol), is staring in disbelief at the TV screen as CNN displays a picture of Clinton & Gore declaring them the winner.....

Overall, the movie is average, though Josh Brolin gave a decent performance...

1. Just think -- if electronic "vote" "counting" existed then, Bush would've "won" re-election...

2. Poppy didn't WANT to win that election. They expected to be impeached after the release of
the BCCI report in Dec1992. Jackson Stephens, who helped GHWBush bring BCCI into this country, made sure their asses would be covered through the 90s, though, didn't he?

3. In spring 1991, it looked like Bush was going to be a 2-term president
I mean, his approval rating was rather high after the first Gulf War...Then, the economy tanked & he was done...

9. he didn't WANT to win.....read the BCCI report. He knew hearings on that report would
expose even more and further scrutiny of the outstanding matters would have been impossible to avoid.

Better to have Jackson Stephens' boy in office to deepsix the report and to protect Poppy and his cronies.

4. I wouldn't waste good brain cells on this movie.
We went through 8 years of hell. Why watch a rehash of it on film?

6. W does get Dubya's daddy issues right.
He always was under the shadow of Bush 41, felt he had to prove himself to him, which is why he drank, why he drank the fundie Christianity Kool-Aid, why he ran for President, why he did all the clusterfucked things he did.

I enjoyed the little nightmare he had at the end of the film.

Oh, and this reminds me, I damned well enjoyed watching Obama's inauguration. You remember, when Bush walked up onto the Capitol Steps, and a million people packing the Mall started singing "Na-na-na-na Hey-hey, Goodbye!" Remember that Daddy Bush was right there... I'm sure Chimpy almost had a mental breakdown at that point. That moment was exquisite!

8. Babs wasn't a particularly pleasant character in W.
Though you're right - Shrub has mommy issues indeed...
