Poll question: Will you give up your constitutional rights for Thanksgiving travel?
Fourth Amendment - Search and Seizure
http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/data/constitution/amendment04/

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

2. I really miss my daughter
and her family but I can't bring myself to go through the baloney at the airport. They're a 15-hour drive away and I might chance that later in the winter. There is no train to Nashville (my next song title).

5. I am flying cross country tomorrow....
I do not know how I feel about this. I have been patted down for different reasons before and while I didn't care much for it, I understand the need for it in some cases. I can definitely imagine the lines going through security will now be much slower though.

6. I don't believe that these searches are unreasonable.
Thus, no one is being asked to give up any constitutional rights.

16. I believe they are extremely unreasonable.
It treats everyone as an assumed criminal, and
the searches are not effective. We should have a system
more like Israel's who has never had a airliner
go down in thirty years, yet Isreal lives under an
atmosphere of extreme threat.

19. Is that the test for reasonableness????
Whether you are treated as an assumed criminal?

Beyond the fact that this isn't a good test for reasonableness.... I don't even think it is remotely accurate. If you were being treated as an assumed criminal, you would be thrown up against the wall and physically restrained while you are searched. That isn't the case.

Further, it crazy to compare the Israeli system to ours, since they are dealing with a tiny fraction of the travelers and highly trained interrogators basically interviewing each traveler. They will racially profile and research anyone suspicious and if they have what they consider reasonable suspicion, you don't have the same type of rights you do here.

I look at air travel in the same way I look at driving. I don't have a RIGHT to it, in the same way I have the right to be free from search and seizure in my own home. Driving is a prvillage, not a right, and thus my freedoms are heavily restricted. I HAVE TO wear a seat belt under penalty of fine. I HAVE TO have auto insurance or an auto insurance fund (self insure). I HAVE TO put my two year old in a car seat. I CAN'T hold my cell phone and drive at the same time.

If and when I CHOOSE to fly some where I become subject to the rules of that choice. I have other ways to get places if I really want (buses, trains, cars), which may be less convenient, but it would be a choice I make to avoid the infringement on my "freedom" of this "unreasonable" search.

7. Never
When they get serious about it all they will have a better stand on this crap. Cargo goes without being checked, they load it on the planes and never even check most of it... EVER...Until they start checking everything that goes on the plane as closely as they are attempting to check our crotch's F'em, I'll drive.

10. Cargo on all domestic flights is screened
http://www.globalsecuritynewswire.org/gsn/nw_20100805_5859.php

so feel free to fly with the continental United States. Why they're frisking 3 year olds is totally beyond me but I guess they don't want to be accused of profiling.

The vast majority of my family members live within a fifty mile radius. I'm boring like that.
