WH "Outraged" At Carville, He Responds "if they're offended, let 'em be offended"
James Carville says he views the joke he made at a Christian Science Monitor breakfast as "mild."

"If Hillary gave him one of her balls, they'd both have two," Democratic strategist James Carville told the Christian Science Monitor at a breakfast on Thursday morning.

Video-->> http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2010/11/18/cnn_white_house_outraged_at_carville_he_responds.html

"If I offended anybody, I'm not sorry and I don't apologize," Carville told CNN.

Pure class.

1. Not only did he diss them both, it probably wasn't the typed of joke to be told
at a breakfast meeting. Pretty crass and not very thoughtful of the attendees.

If they did, Carville would either shut up or apologize.

First Mark Penn suggested President Obama should resign in a WaPo op-ed and now this.

That's two uber-Clintonians who are super close to Bill Clinton talking trash about President Obama in the same week.

Coincidence? I think not.

It's obvious to me who's directing this garbage and why.

6. Crass and only funny after logging significant time at a bar with strong drink involved..
I'm not sure why the White House would bother to notice a minor barb like this. If they have anything to fear most at this point it would be "weak President" narrative catching on. Once President Obama has that particular tag affixed to his forehead he might as well forget it because it's the one thing voters will never forgive or forget.

Getting into a cat fight with a strategist like Carville whose shelf life is long expired only opens the door IMO.

But everybody will know who Barack Obama was.

He's the guy that whupped James Carville and Mark Penn's ass up and down the street, and gave 'em a boot in the ass for good measure.

Now they think he's weakened, so they prattle and spew like the little whupped doggies they are, with their silly green shoes, and their junior high school nonsense. Two irrelevant losers.

The serious people are trying to build a new world. Carville's pouting in the corner like a child. I'll stick with the grown ups, thanks.

I do think Carville's comment about the balls was extremely disrespectful. He does owe an apology. I doubt Hillary appreciates him mouthing off like that.

BTW, Carville isn't a racist. But he is a heavy drinker. I think it clouds his judgment.

18. I don't care for Carville, but what he said doesn't bother me
there's lots of interesting ways to tell Obama to be a stronger advocate and more effective negotiator on our behalf. there's no way i'd choose the way Carville phrased it.

but at some point, the White House has got to wake up and say, "what the hell, why our all our allies telling us to stand up for them?" and hopefully someone will finally answer, "because we haven't been doing that good a job of doing it."

until then, i'm more concerned with the White House being tough than when someone goes overboard telling them to be tough.

so sue me.

19. The EXACT same 'joke' was used against Obama during the 2008 Primaries
Edited on Fri Nov-19-10 03:55 AM by grumgrum
Not sure why Obama WH is angry now...they should be use to hearing it because Carville had used it more than once in the 2008 primaries.

I don't like Carville because

1) He seems eager to defend the Clintons even though the Clintons are even more Corporate-owned than Obama is (and htat isn't say much about Obama),
and 2) Christian Science...seriously? Christian Science? How embarrassing!

But regardless, Carville's joke does have an element of truth to it. Obama needs to not always be afraid of Republicans. This is why republicans keep dissing him so much and getting away with it.

They seem to give the Right a pass on pretty much anything so i am actually not surprised they are "outraged" when the Left says something about them.

If this joke had come from the right the WH would have likely accepted the joke and apologized to the Right.

32. Wow. Carville provided an example of how we want Obama to behave.
He stood up, said what he thought, and then didn't back down.

Even while thinking Carville is being an ass, I have respect for how he handled the situation.

I support Obama, and love it when he "tells it like it is." Rather than get offended, perhaps he should look at *why* someone of Carville's stature (who he can *HEAR*) is actually saying; its not like the rest of us screaming, "STAND UP FOR US!!!" is getting heard.

Go, Carville - even if it was an asshole comment, it was funny, and expressed *my* frustration with President Obama's "nice guy routine." I don't want a Nice Guy: I want a President who tells it like it is, kicks butt, and takes names (including the folks who couldn't be bothered to attend yesterday's bipartisan meeting). :)

36. you can speak for yourself, but Carville represents the EXACT opposite
of what I seek in a President.

Arrogant, self absorbed, rude and appealing to the worst in all of us.

No thanks Idabriggs- I'll take Pres. Obama and his humility, patience, self control over Jas. Carville's assholery any day.

Part of the 'change' that I've looked for in leadership of this society is one that doesn't just shoot arrogant 'one liners' and divisive character assassinations out for the adoring public to feast on. It takes a hell of alot of self control, AND self respect not to resort to childish, snarky, attention grabbing bad mouthing.

I don't respect Mr. Carville, and don't believe HE has or is working to further the causes that I hold dear- he's only interested in the attention his comments bring to James Carville.

I do believe Pres. Obama is committed to working to put the policies and ideals of the Democratic party into place, despite a LOT of opposition, and many obstacles.

40. When he says his kind of people are 'Sanctified by God' and
mhy kind are not, I do not read that as humility, but as a rather dogmatic sort of prejudice wrapped up in Jesus wrapping to give it more impact. It is a form of mass character assasination. He says we should not have equal rights, because we are not worthy of them according to the creator of the universe, whom he speaks for in all humility. Takes the mantel of the divine, but very humbly.
To me, Obama and Carville are the same sort of crude, atavistic characterizers of others that my Mom and Dad taught me not to be.

73. Allow me to explain the perspective
Obama thinks marriage is "sanctified" between a man and a woman.

http://www.google.com/search?&q=Obama+marriage+sanctified

Therefore, the line of thinking is that straight people who are married are sanctified, but gay people cannot be.

(Note: this isn't my opinion, but I've been down this road before, so I can at least explain the substance of the argument)

83. thanks, I'm aware of many of Pres. Obama's
statements concerning 'Gay Marriage'- But I still haven't seen any quote of his saying what Bluenorthwest claims he has said.

In his book "The Audacity of Hope" Pres. O writes:

"For many practicing Christians, the inability to compromise may apply to gay marriage. I find such a position troublesome, particularly in a society in which Christian men and women have been known to engage in adultery or other violations of their faith without civil penalty. I believe that American society can choose to carve out a special place for the union of a man and a woman as the unit of child rearing most common to every culture. I am not willing to have the state deny American citizens a civil union that confers equivalent rights no such basic matters as hospital visitation or health insurance coverage simply because the people they love are of the same sex—nor am I willing to accept a reading of the Bible that considers an obscure line in Romans to be more defining of Christianity than the Sermon on the Mount. …The heightened focus on marriage is a distraction from other, attainable measures to prevent discrimination and gays and lesbians. (pp. 222-3)

Something to think about.

not the kind of person that I'd want to copy.

...."Instead of apologizing, Cheney ran off to Fox News soon after to boast about his classlessness, bragging about having "felt better after I had done it."

Yesterday, Cheney appeared on a conservative talk-radio show, and continued to crow about his behavior. When the far-right host gushed about how much he "loved that move," the former V.P. replied:

"You'd be surprised how many people liked that. That's sort of the best thing I ever did.".......

Yes, his remark was mildly offensive.

Yes, I believe he's doing the tactically correct thing by responding to the outrage over his remark by extending his middle finger.

Carville, more than anyone, knows how the media feeding frenzy works, and knows that if he backpedals and apologizes, the media and the right wing will feast upon his corpse.

So he might as well show that he's got a pair and pick a fight.

50. Sorry, but I still like Carville.
The remark may have been crude, but it is nothing that hasn't been said in different form recently by several others (most notoriously by Moore). Carville has never had time for B.S., rightly or wrongly, he always says it as he sees it. He summarized Bill's campaign in one sentence in 1992 to great effect: "It's the economy, stupid." Ironically enough, that should have been the Dem's motto in 2010 too.

58. Oh so his sexism is OK. You are truly a paragon of consistency. Full
disclosure - I don't disagree with the idea behind what he said. But I would think DU's own defender of all things female would be outraged.

63. Saying that someone has "no balls" has become part of the American lexicon.
Edited on Fri Nov-19-10 02:50 PM by Beacool
It has ceased to be gender based.

66. Well that's incredibly convenient. Ain't it. Lots of things have become part
of the lexicon. I'm sure if David Axelrod would have made a similar comment about someone else you'd be totally fine with it. I'm sure you wouldn't get all. x( , :( , and ;(

;) right back at ya.

"Gay" has ceased to be sexuality based, right?

RIGHT?

classless and sexist.

You may need testicles to feel strong and powerful, but women do not. We do just fine without them thankyouvermuch you sexist piece of shit.

76. I disagree with the "WH OUTRAGED." I think Obama is playing this the "cool way."
I think he's realized he needs "paid" ATTACK DOGS like CARVILLE to support him.

I think this is a good move..a strategic move after this last disastrous election that he needs to "reach out" to the folks who got Clinton Election...and there was NOBODY BETTER than Carville & Begala..to do THAT!

Good on Obama that he's finally WAKING UP!

87. If Obama had this attitude, the Republicans would be all but annihilated
Taking our case to the American people unapologetically, ramming legislation down Wall Street's throat, this would have won us a landslide of populism.

Such a waste.

to be seriously pissed off at the republicans but I bet they're not.
