Carville on Obama: “If Hillary Gave Him One of Her Balls They’d Both Have Two”
"If Hillary gave him one of her balls, they'd both have two," Democratic strategist James Carville told the Christian Science Monitor at a breakfast on Thursday morning.

6. This is posted at First Read:
Carville questions Obama's testicular fortitude -- again

<...>

*** UPDATE *** Ben Smith points out that Carville said the same thing during the campaign, which drew this Obama response on Nightline:

"Well, you know, James Carville is well-known for spouting off his mouth without always knowing what he's talking about," Obama said on Nightline. "I intend to stay focused on fighting for the American people because what they don't need is 20 more years of performance art on television. And that's what James Carville and a lot of those folks are expert at ... a lot of talk and not getting things done for the American people."

Carville is still obnoxious, and judging from the comments a lot of people agree.

33. brilliant Obama comment - that is what Carville is - performance art
His only claim to fame is that he helped a man, described as the most talented politician of his generation, win an election - after at one point in the campaign being 3 out of 3 - against a man at 33% approval. For this, he and Begala - in a book and movie - create the mythology that they were brilliant campaign managers.

He was a net negative in Hillary's campaign.

This type of talk is disgusting and uncalled for - and he over rates how much stronger Hillary would have been.

56. Bill Hader, the guy on Saturday Night Live, did a fantastic impression of Carville.
One of the best impressions I have ever seen of Carville.
I wish James would restrict his vitriol to Republicans because that is where the problem is, not with the Democrats.

James really needs to remind himself how bad this country was driven into the ditch by the Republicans during 2005 and 2006 to the point that the Democrats were given control of the House of Representatives for the first time in 12 years, since 1994, which coincidently was when Carville was working with President Clinton.

He should focus his energies on where the real problems emanate, the Republican party.

36. Perception is reality - all of us manage to some degree or another
the perception others have of us - for the same reason that the President needs to step up his game in this area. While nuanced debate is admirable under most conditions, occasionally you have to haul out the "kick ass, ask questions later" persona and let it loose - especially when you're dealing with idiots who aren't capable of nuanced debate. It's the whole alpha-dog thing - ignore it at your own peril. Guys know what I'm talking about.

Why is it that we all are expected to have male body parts in order to be strong? I'd like to see what some of them would say if someone said that male politicians needed to "grow a uterus", or, for that matter, a womb. Let's see any of them go through 9 months of pregnancy and childbirth.

Edited on Fri Nov-19-10 12:01 PM by TwilightGardener
unless there is a great deal of animosity there. It is a HUGE insult, and a gesture of extreme disrespect and contempt that can't be walked back. Now, add this level of insult and disrespect to the fact that Carville is talking about a Democratic President--a position that one would hope would command at least a BASELINE level of respect from another fellow Democrat, no matter what policy and style differences might exist. Carville's goal is to belittle and diminish the man on a very personal/gut level--why does he feel he can do this and get away with it? Why does he feel it's a "mild" comment? What in God's name is MILD about insisting that our male Democratic President has less balls than a woman? I attribute Carville's obvious and appalling disrespect to the fact that Obama is black, and therefore not quite fully a man to begin with--and Obama's personality and governing style just gives him the excuse to mouth off. I really, really have a hard time imagining him saying this about a white male President.

and said he had less balls than a woman, I'm pretty sure my husband would want to knock the guy's teeth down his throat. He certainly wouldn't want anything to do with that shmuck ever again. Carville isn't close with Obama. He's not just joking around with a good friend here, where such ribbing is expected. AND he's a media and political figure, not some anonymous doofus on a message board where one might expect such insults. He is very literally and publicly attacking Obama's manhood, and seems to feel it's "mild"--I don't think he'd try this with a white President. I think that's despicable, and yep, I think there's a racial component to it.

That's the preferred word used against anyone who criticizes Obama. Few things are worse in this country than being labeled a racist. Want to discomfit an opponent? Then call them a racist, most people have a tough time reacting to that accusation.

First, equate toughness with masculinity. Then emasculate your party's president by painting his female colleague as some kind of three-balled mutant. Finally, stir up buried internecine strife.

Just wow. I have criticism for Obama aplenty, but this is pretty useless.

Just as sexist as the GOP women with the *man up* meme.

It's wrong. It's sexist politics and I detest it. What he said demeans people. It demeans Hillary as a woman, implying that she needs *balls* to be strong and it demeans Obama by saying that he needs more balls.

A good leader is NOT about balls, testosterone or anything a man considers *Manly*. Shame on him.

It was, by well over half of posters, considered absolutely fine, when Michael Moore used his sexist and homophobic pink tutu analogy to criticise Obama, but let Carville use this sexist analogy and everyone jumps right in calling him every name in the book. To be clear, I agree, Carville was dead wrong here and sexist to boot, but no more wrong, or sexist, than Moore.

And the Clintons don't seem to mind at all. If they did, Carville would either shut up or apologize.

First Mark Penn suggested President Obama should resign in a WaPo op-ed and now this.

That's two uber-Clintonians who are super close to Bill Clinton talking trash about President Obama in the same week.

Coincidence? I think not. It's obvious to me who's directing this garbage and why.

would look chaotic, his actions of late really have been chaotic. It's Obama or the highway and the highways to hell. Carville has to get with the program and recognize reality, none of this helps Hillary in any way supporting the President does.
