At the end of the day all Bloomberg can do is split the center left vote and help to elect a Republican. He will not carry one state. I doubt he wants to do that.

he would take Dem votes away from Obama, according to Tweety, and allow Palin to win.

a New York magazine article. It wasn't Tweety who made it up - he just reported on it and apparently believed the scenario could work:

Bloomberg will win no states and consequently no electoral votes However he could siphon enough votes in enough states from President Obama to "give" those states and its electoral votes to the Republican.
