1. But they DON'T have to do anything--no nothing and let the cuts sunset
otherwise, the sun sets on the Obama presidency.

2. That was a horribly depressing report.
I'm so close to just checking out of politics for good. :-( I'm so sick of this.

It seems that the only people that matter in this country are the tea baggers and corporations. This isn't healthy for me.

9. Sometimes you do need a break...
After being a news junkie and political activist for decades, I didn't read a newspaper for a year after Bush was installed in the WH by the Supreme Court.

Here's a quote I came across this week that reminds me of where liberals/progressives find themselves now:

"One does not discover new lands without consenting to lose sight of the shore for a very long time." Andre Gide

Spend some time doing what you love - politics will always be here.

3. As I said before the elections, the Dems. should have proposed a bill
to make the tax cuts for the MIDDLE CLASS permanent but raise the rates on the rich. They should have forced the republickers to vote on it and if the bill failed, the Dems. could have framed it as a campaign issue, saying "Dems. want to cut taxes for the middle class and working class while the republickers only care about cutting taxes for the rich."

It may not have worked, but it's a lot better than capitulating to the enemy.

8. What have the Democrats screwed up strategically?
There are more than 250 Democrats in the House through the date the tax cuts expire, and they need about 220 votes to pass a tax cut. They do not need a single Republican vote.

Have they screwed this up in the Senate? There are 59 Democrats through November, and then it becomes 58.

If it's to be believed that every Democrat (including Blanche Lincoln) will support just the tax cuts for the middle class, then they need two Republican votes.

Where do Senate Democrats stand?
