"And I welcome their hatred!"

Those soul-stirring words have been cited here frequently of late. In all instances that I can recall, they were used in contrast to the alleged "spinelessness" of Obama. But (also as I recall) the date of that speech was invariably omitted.

The date was in 1936, in FDR's fourth year in office. Despite some false moves and lost motion, they were highly successful and productive years, and`FDR was campaigning for his second term. But in 1934, his second year in office, although much had already been accomplished, his record for "political courage" was decidedly mixed. Here's a recent posting on DU of mine, that goes into it and explains where I'm coming from: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=102&topic_id=4612741&mesg_id=4613097

I cordially welcome any and all comments.
