61. You can't be. Because I am. And I don't think he threw gays under the bus.
Edited on Sat Nov-13-10 12:53 PM by Honeycombe8
Besides, there is more than one issue, and more than one group of people in the country. Right now, millions are out of work and losing their homes. I hope Obama and Congress's priority is THAT before anything else, even the environment, which is my #1 issue normally.

The environment has not been thrown under the bus, either.

Priorities.

But now is the time to move on DADT. We'll see what the lame duck Congress does. Obama is the only President in the history of the country who has mentioned the rightness of gays serving in the military. I wouldn't call that throwing a group of people under the bus. The issue has been moving forward. More than any other President has done in the history of the country.

Learn the facts. Keep things in perspective. Sometimes it takes a marathon, rather than a sprint, to get something done. Just because you don't get your pony right away doesn't mean your parents threw you under the bus.

5. In my mind, every issue is decided by the relevance of corporate or individual rights.
Corporations are treated like they are helpless children, always being picked on. They have enough money and lawyers to take care of themselves.

4. You have asked a question that doesn't appear to have any
known answer. The Administration has simply fallen over the cliff since the election. Obama is still
the President, the Senate is still a Democratic majority and the filibuster rule could be changed by the Senate in January. Why in the Hell is Obama being such a dumb coward?

9. Senator Sanders
issued a statement yesterday that made this point

“If we are serious about making Social Security strong and solvent for the next 75 years, President Obama has the right solution. On October 14, 2010, he restated a long-held position that the cap on income subject to Social Security payroll taxes, now at $106,800, should be raised. As the president has long stated, it is absurd that billionaires pay the same amount into the system as someone who earns $106,800.

“With the richest people in this country getting richer and the middle class in decline, it is absurd that billionaires pay the same amount into the Social Security system as someone who earns $106,800.”

Still, that's only one issue: protecting Social Security.

Edited on Thu Nov-11-10 07:11 PM by Exilednight
write autobiographies based on how they want to be known or remembered, not how they actually are.

Ask any politician what they think about themselves, and every single one of them will tell you that they don't play politics and only talk about the issues.

Edit: except for maybe Jimmy Carter. He writes books with warts and all.

50. Obama: "I serve as a blank screen on which people of vastly different political stripes....
...project their own views,”

That pretty much says it all. It's one thing to acknowledge it, but a far different thing to be PROUD of it...

Shades of what Gertrude Stein said about Oakland: there's no "there" there.

60. In my opinion - it stands for moving the country in a more
progressive direction while taking into account the reality of where we started and the current political situation. It also seems to stand for something that has all but disappeared in our society and that's having an open conversation about important issues where we actually listen to those who may not agree with us. It also stands for tackling difficult realities as if they really matter (which they do) and are not just fodder for endless anger and debate.
