CBS completely butchered the interview with Obama
If you go to CBS site and watch the complete interview, you'll be amazed by how their editing did everything possible to make him look bad. They brutally cut his answers, left out any answer in which he pushed back - they did a wonderful RW work.

Fuck them all.

1. That's what they do.
Edited on Sun Nov-07-10 10:59 PM by FrenchieCat
They aim to please their corporate masters.
Plus, they want their tax cuts.

That's why I keep saying that Obama's bully pulpit
is quite controlled by the media....
So when folks believe he should use it more often,
I suggest they write letters to the media.
Worked to get KO back, so I guess it could work
to demand fair coverage of the President, and
not have airhead Contessa talk over him after
showing 1 minute of a speech.
Ya think folks would demand that or is it asking that they do too much?

2. Yes, I'm sure they did but...
... homeboy needs to be a lil' less verbose ... and also not use words like "verbose."

He needs to go for the one liners .... needs to spend more time watching cable news. He'd pick up some tips that way. ;)

4. Needs to be like a George Bush.....
the only way of speaking that folks can accept
these days, coming from a President.

Dead or alive...

Bring it on!....

Mission accomplished.....

The ownership society....

Shock and Awe.....

It's your money....

Yes we can (which was criticized as being an empty slogan...of course)....

and all that kind of shit.

43. Which is why we're in so much trouble as a nation, the dumbing down of the american people
You're right that Obama probably needs to resort to emotional dumbed down soundbytes to do better in the media.

And yet that's exactly our problem today, the whole cable media is all about saying the most outrageous and emotional crap to get airtime, while real detailed intelligentual discussion gets ignored.

I mean for example, if we had a media that actually cared about the truth, then during the healthcare debate when the GOP started screaming about made up death panels the media would have done one of two things.
1) Ignore their lies about nonexistent death panels, as talking about it just empowers the liars.
or
2) Heavily go after Sarah Palin and the others who were screaming about death panels and make it clear to people that their claims were lies and that Palin & the other liars have no credibility on health care issues.

Oversimplied slogans are never the answer to our complex problems, that's part of why Bush failed so badly, he oversimplified complex issues with campaign slogan fixes rather then well thought out detailed solutions.

Bottom line, the media is our problem, they're all becoming less and less credible as journalists by the day as they continue to dumb news down and spread lies.

Can't we just let him be smart?

I swear I wish the people who can't stand to listen to anything more than a sound bite would just STFU. No wonder everything is a disaster - we're letting the stupid people direct us.

Besides, intelligence does not preclude conciseness (which IS a word, btw, you wouldn't think it would be, but it is, looked it up.)

Seriously, go watch the interview. I'm so mad. He gave such thoughtful answers, got a bit personal, it was classic Obama interview - and all they did was cut 70 minutes to 10 minutes of RW propaganda.

.... seriously, I've got him down pat. (I listen to either the daily press briefing or the previous days town hall/press availablity/whatever as I get ready for work.)

But again PART of his problem is that his answers are TOO long. If he'd only given them 20 mins worth of answers, they would have been FORCED to air the whole thing. ;)

You mean he needs to dumb himself down for the American people who can only understand things in short, simple sentences??? Why doesn't he have the right to be himself...just like the rest of us? I'm so sick of the constant criticism. He can't be in front of the camera for two seconds before someone says...should he have worn that tie.

unless there are new topics in the full 70 minute interview, I'd say it's length is not a good sign.

your assessment is a partial assessment, and I can see why you wouldn't get the full picture.

Maybe you will have time to read the full transcript at some point.

watching or reading about an interview isn't for everyone.

All is not lost, I know you tried.
The transcripts are there for others to read.
Some people prefer reading over watching something on TV or video anyway.

There are a few drawbacks, but overall I believe I'm WAY ahead of the game. But it sometime takes a lot of Googling to find what I want. Hence, I truly appreciate such help as yours.

26. What happened was that I got into a dispute with the local cable outfit, and I dropped cable.
In my downtown Seattle apartment, TV reception is all but impossible, so I gave up on it. (No, COMPLETELY!) Living by myself (no kidz), I can get away with that.

Later, I got an excellent DSL connection, and I (hardly ever) looked back! In addition to a`few computers almost always on-line, I have a nice handy WiFi Netbook by my bedside. Ideally, occasional access to cable programs would be nice, but I don't believe it'd be worth the added expense. My TV is over 15 years old, and the trim is starting to fall of. But the picture quality is still good. I use it for the few VHS tapes I wasn't able to update to DVD.

researching on the computer than listen to some pundits spew nonsense any day.

Hey as long as the picture quality on your TV is still good, who cares what it looks like? :)

VHS tapes are not bad, we still have a VCR, never gave it up.

41. I've probably become too rigid on that "No TV!" policy.
But a computer or two and a fast internet connection, are FAR better than any TV/TIVO set-up!

Almost all of my DVD purchases have been surprisingly cheap, when I bother to shop around (mainly at Amazon, or occasionally at eBay). This includes many classics. And the DVD "extras" are really great. For one thing, my hearing is near shot, and the subtitle option is a real lifesaver.

responses....so to balance that out the Corporate Media solicitor for right wing advertising had to cut and edit to fit their narrow commercial agenda.

The Pride and The Greed runs deep.

11. I haven't watched the full interview yet but I don't have any
problems with the edited version as presented.

Some people may yearn for sound bites but if you bother to listen the Pres makes the points he's wanting you to hear in very ordinary but uncliched language.

Watching this interview I understand (though don't sympathize with) the frustrations of the Repukes...the Pres talks a good conciliatory game but to me it's pretty clear the only concessions he's willing to make are those around the margins.

He's willing to admit mistakes but not in what he did, but only perhaps in the way he did it.

I quite like his stubbornness in all this.

challenged their premises. Hell, how could he not say that the GOP had already announced they were unwilling to compromise.

So, color me unimpressed by this interview. I hope he gets more combative.

35. So THIS is that bully pulpit in action...
I always wondered what it would look like.

When started to watch the interview my first thought was just why would he do this? Just what did he think he would accomplish?

You don't fight irrational arguments with rationality. He is the most powerful man in the US (after the fox hosts, of course), why isn't HE controlling the message?

He deferred to a "talking head" whose only skin in the game is his paycheck.

"They want a government...that is looking after their interests, but isn't engaged in a whole bunch of giveaways."

Too bad he went entirely the wrong direction with it. I don't care about big government as long as it's helping the little guy. As soon as it's serving corp or military interests, I'm in the Barry Goldwater camp filling the bathtub.
