Teabaggers to Congressional Republicans: repeal health care or risk severe backlash
Edited on Fri Nov-05-10 09:00 AM by ProSense

Tea Party Flexes Muscle with Republicans

By CARL HULSE and DAVID M. HERSZENHORN

WASHINGTON — The incoming leadership of the new House Republican majority hardly had a chance to relish its dismantling of the Democrats before the Tea Party came calling in the form of Representative Michele Bachmann.

Ms. Bachmann, the Minnesota Republican and Tea Party heroine often seen exhorting conservative activists at rallies and on cable television, announced that she intended to seek the No. 4 position among House Republicans.

<...>

In a draft of a confidential memo to be distributed to all incoming House Republican lawmakers, Dick Armey, a former Republican majority leader who is chairman of the conservative group FreedomWorks, and Matt Kibbe, its president, told lawmakers that a repeal of the Democrats’ health care law was “nonnegotiable” and warned that they would face a severe backlash from voters if they did not succeed in reversing the law.

“Politically speaking, your only choice is to get on offense and start moving boldly ahead to repeal, replace and defund Obamacare in 2011, or risk rejection by the voters in 2012,” Mr. Armey and Mr. Kibbe wrote.

Fun times ahead.

2. They will go through the motions of it but a 2/3rds majority they just don't have.

14. I wonder if Republicans will start calling that an "excuse"
the way we had the 60 filibuster rule here.

The Republican base yelling that they are being ignored, the House is not passing what they want and so they are going to stay home, dammit! And none of that 2/3 majority "excuse!"

16. LOL! I am ready with the popcorn to see how it all turns out.
Teabaggers vs the Repub establishment. The establishment used the tea partiers to get the House back. I wonder if it will indeed bite them in the ass.

and going even further to incorporate a public option

My understanding is bills do NOT need to originate in the house, they can come from the Senate also

5. And they've already conceded they're not going to repeal it in full..
.... their method will be to defund various parts of it. But ... OBAMA GOT ALL THE PENS!!! HA HA HA!

6. You think after all the fighting last year, the Senate Dems and Obama are going to roll over?
I think not.

All Obama needs is a veto pen, all the Senate Dems need is 50 no votes.

So now it's our turn. We block, the teabaggers freak out going "WHY AREN'T OUR PET CAUSES MADE INTO LAW YET?! WHY ISN'T OBAMACARE REPEALED?"

It's the GOP's turn for the circular firing squad.

8. From what I have read
Most Americans do not want HCR repealed. Someone please correct me if I am wrong about this. If this is in fact the case this could go in our favor. The dems should spread the word this very minute and by all means us it during the 2012 election.

12. For most of 2009 many on DU were saying the republican party is dying, dead, crippled, etc. and
otherwise breaking. Hopefully we have learned from Tuesday that we can't write them off. They have more money than ever with the SC ruling and have control over a lot of redistricting. It looks like they are getting stronger, far from imploding. Of course our turnout hurt us, but they did "shellac" us, shortly after many here had written them off.

13. I don't agree.
The OP doesn't paint a pretty picture. Let's face it, teabaggers prevented Republicans from taking the Senate. They're in a tough spot, and the teabaggers are out for blood if they can't deliver. Expect a lot more of this.

21. David Corn talked about the Tea Party hit list for 2012 last night.
The tea party has a hit list -- six senators they want to take out in 2012, including Miss Breck Girl Hutchison.

He said, "It's never too early for a circular firing squad."
