Don't underestimate the power of the Citizens United ruling
So much corporate and anonymous money flowed to the GOP coffers and pushed them into the winning column tonite. Our fight is a fight against very wealthy and powerful special interests.

The heart of the matter is public financing of campaigns.

1. Of the 25-30 political calls received here in NC...
2 were from Dems.

I can't wait until all the numbers around this are out.

11. Today the Progressives were Exterminated BIG TIME! Now They Can Buy the Entire Congress off.
Obviously the progressives were a thorn and so they had to take them out and were successful. Now special interests can buy the rest of congress with relative ease and push their agenda without anyone calling them out or resisting taking kick backs

3. No one is underestimating it
It not only put our government up for direct sale to the highest bidder, but it opens the floodgates for all sorts of artificial rights to be assigned to corporations.

5. I'm not. I strongly feel it may signal the death of democracy in the U.S. I have a BIG question.
Edited on Wed Nov-03-10 12:39 AM by kysrsoze
That shitty ruling, courtesy of Scalia, Roberts and Thomas et al, has done more to damage our country than probably everything over the last century.

I've asked the question before...

Does anyone know of any party planning to file suit to reverse this ruling, based on an unfair amount of speech due to ties with nearly infinite money?

6. We fought this race with one hand behind our backs. Obama needs to get us more money
Soros, Oprah, and the rest of the lefty elite need to chip in so we can fight back this tide.

9. I keep asking that, as I think corporations and anonymous donors have an unfair amount of speech.
They literally have UNLIMITED $$$, and that cannot be considered free speech.

14. How much offshore fascist cash came from us taxpayers?
I believe this infusion of hostile foreign cash came at least in part
from the money that disappeared in Iraq.

15. It's a sickening irony that one of the first casualties of Shittizens United
would be the very man who wrote the law who restrained these corporate bastards for years.

20. How about a Corporate Sunset Law?
If corporations are persons, then they must be subject to death.
If these bastards had to stand before a panel every other year to renew their charters,
we could snuff them the moment the bad behavior started.
IBM, for example, added insult to injury by off shoring jobs then trying to sleaze on the victims unemployment with offers of slave pay in India.
Their asses would be out of business at the next hearing.
Or, perhaps if there were potential consequences for such behavior we might not have seen it.
It's not a final solution to corporate person hood.
But it would be a start.
