Barbour: GOP will make healthcare law unrecognizable

Barbour: GOP will make healthcare law unrecognizable
By Russell Berman - 10/31/10 11:22 AM ET

A leading Republican predicted that even if a newly empowered GOP doesn’t completely repeal the healthcare law, the party will make it unrecognizable over the next few years.

“They will make such big changes to it over the next three years that you won’t recognize it,” Gov. Haley Barbour (R-Miss.), the chairman of the Republican Governors Association, said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Barbour said he would be “surprised” if Republicans don’t win back the House on Tuesday, though he was less sure about the Senate. A GOP win would be a referendum on President Obama, he said, and Republicans would first seek to cut spending next year.

“If Republicans win, that's what it’ll be, a repudiation of Obama’s policies,” Barbour said.

2. Old news. What else is new with your GOP mind?
And the healthcare law will be repealed in FAVOR for even more stronger healthcare - oh, something like those furriners in Yurp has. That's right, single payer universal health care. Eliminate the health care industry entirely. Health should NOT answer to greed.

8. They can't repeal anything if Obama can veto what they try to repeal.
The Repukes are running on this fantasy of repealing healthcare. It won't happen, obviously!

9. They will show their asses so bad the dems will win the house back in 2y

But the Dems will not really do anything bold or blame the mess on the GOP. Everything will get bogged down in the senate like now, the GOP will convince the public again that it's the liberals and they will win again in 2 more years.

However- if the dems begin to hilight how the GOP is helping businesses, running up the deficit and making the middle class poorer they will win. But since the dems never try to make conservative a dirty word they will never stay in power.

16. Agree 1000%
Time to start kicking some GOP ass, get on the offensive, and quit playing around. Republicans ALWAYS overreach whenever they get just a hint of power. ALWAYS. We should use that to our advantage.

14. So they plan on getting 67 votes in the Senate and 290 votes in the House
for repeal?

Because that is what they need, since Obama will veto it.
