Early Voting in Cook County, IL up from 2006
CHICAGO — Cook County election officials say the number of early votes has greatly increased compared with the last midterm election.

Unofficial data shows nearly 72,000 Chicagoans have voted, not including Thursday, the last day of the activity. Fewer than 25,000 voted early in 2006.

In the rest of Cook County, around 72,000 early votes have been cast, up from around 33,000 in 2006.

This year's early voting numbers are far below the historic levels of 2008's presidential election. In Chicago, more than 260,000 people voted early. In suburban Cook County it was nearly 227,000.

Election Day is Tuesday.
