GOP getting worried about...South Carolina? New RGA ad morphs Obama into gaining Dem candidate.
The Repub Gov Assn. has decided to pump money into the SC governor's race as several polls have shown Democrat Vince Sheheen gaining ground on Republican Nikki Haley. It's hard to fathom that SC would actually vote a Dem into the Governor's office, especially in an election cycle where all the talk is about a GOP wave on the horizon, but something is happening here. Support for Haley is very soft. And the gap is closing. The new poll referenced in the article below is the third in a about two or three weeks to have Haley's margin in single digits. The prior two had four and five point gaps, this newest one has a 9 point gap. But the newest one also shows that 26% of those Haley voters say they could change their minds. And Sheheen has been hitting her hard on reports she has been fined repeatedly for paying personal and business taxes late, as well as other shady dealings.

The new RGA ad is pretty slimy, and morphs Obama into Sheheen. Ends with the tag, "an Obama liberal, in our own back yard." A snip from the Politico (I know) article and a link to the new RGA ad below.

The article:

---------
The Republican Governors Association is going up on TV in South Carolina with an ad comparing Democratic gubernatorial candidate Vincent Sheheen with President Barack Obama — a sign that the commanding lead Republican Nikki Haley has enjoyed is narrowing.

A poll out Wednesday shows Haley’s lead over Sheheen is now at 9 percentage points, considerably closer than the double-digit advantage she has enjoyed since this summer.

...

The tough new RGA ad reflects an attempt to snuff out any momentum Sheheen may be enjoying and to put the race away now.

In a spot that RGA officials say is well-funded and will air in the state's major markets, the committee transforms an image of Obama into Sheheen, noting that the South Carolinian backed the federal stimulus and health care plan while opposing Arizona’s hard-line immigration law.

“Vincent Sheheen — an Obama liberal in our own backyard,” says an announcer in the tagline.

1. Republicans are getting a bit cocky, aren't they. Hope it backfires!

11. I have yet to see an ad from Sheheen
Been seeing the same crapfest from Haley for weeks. Nothing from her opponent. Somewhat surprising, given how many bigwig GOPers around the state have come out in support of him.

15. Not one here in Aiken
And, I have the TV on much of the day on local channels. I'm guessing they're saving their money for parts of the state that aren't so heavily repug.

4. Given the number of Black voters in SC...
it's always been hard for me to imagine it as a bastion of (R) power.

The only reason I can think of is the use of every dirty trick in the book to disenfranchise Black voters.

10. "The number of black voters in SC"?
It's a whopping 29%. Not even a third of the population. Enough to make a dent, but not enough change the big picture. That's why this state is a "bastion of (R) power". Quite frankly, there are days when I'm amazed that there's even a black Congressman in this state (Jim Clyburn), let alone a black AND Democratic one.

5. South Carolina is a baffling state
The Demographics always show that it should vote Democratic. But they never show up or either its just stolen all the time. The GOP gripe on the state makes absolutely no sense especially when you consider how shitty they've run that state. Yet they still always win there and its not even close.

I live in NC. And I just don't understand it.

7. The DLCers, whom have been running things never spent any money there to help the grassroots.

Remember Rahm opposed Dean's 50 state strategy in favor of ad spending in blue states.

It's like DLCers want the nation kept split...
