9. Being in Chicago (his former district, no less), I am split on this.

I feel like I did when he got tagged for the White House Chief of Staff job.

Thrilled he is out of the District (now White House).

Horrified that he was going to be White House Chief of Staff (now might be the next mayor).

We have been celebrating the coming departure of Da' Mayor. Even the majority of die-hard, machine voters whom I know finally had it with Daley when he privatized street parking! There is some debate on whether Daley is quiting because he fears he'd lose, or because he and his wife just want to retire.

It would be hard to get more a more Rightist mayor than that in Chicago. Heck, it would be hard to get more Rigthist than that anywhere. He privatized street parking! How do you fucking top that? Serious question here.

One of the reasons we are celebrating is that it was well known he wants to privatize our water. And we were fairly certain nobody else in Chicago politics would, or could, do that.

But then along comes Rahm....

On the plus side, it is my understanding that, while Rahm was hand-picked by Daley, nobody in Chicago likes the fucker. So even if he does win, there is every chance the city council will not bend over for him the way they did for Daley. A lot of THEM are taking heat for letting Daley privatize street parking. In fact, to the best of my knowledge, not one of those who voted in favor of that have put their hat in the ring for mayor. Those guys (except our one Republican city council member) are keeping a low profile.

FYI: Rahm is the reason I started questioning the DLC "but we wouldn't win that district with a Liberal" logic. I live in what may be Chicago's most liberal/progressive district. But, hey, as long as he is pro-GLBT and backed by the machine, he was pretty unassailable.

12. Looks Like a Whole Lot of People Will Have to Find Someone Else to Obsess Over
Edited on Thu Sep-30-10 02:22 PM by PopSixSquish
I fear for Jane Hamsher's head the next time the President does or doesn't do something she wants when she wants it. I suggest standing at least 50 yards back to watch the explosion...
