I will vote a straight Democratic ticket in the mid-term, and again in the general election. I used to think I was pragmatic in my approach to supporting a candidate. This time though I'm putting all my eggs in one basket and hoping for the best; the best being better than what I see happening at the moment.

That said; I consider President Barack Obama and EVERY elected official who represents me a public servant, and reserve the right to bitch, whine, complain, and generally hold their feet to my personal fire. I REFUSE to apologize for that. Not a single one of my elected representatives is above reproach or out of reach of my criticism and will ALWAYS be viewed with a bit of skepticism. I consider that to be a healthy philosophy in the context of voting for who will represent me.

Furthermore, here's a hearty FUCK YOU to anyone who thinks I'm out of line for bitching about the repeal of DADT, the fact that we still have troops in Iraq, the failure to close Gitmo, the unemployment rate, the value of the dollar, potholes on my dead-end street, or anything else I might choose to bitch about at any given time. It's my fucking right; they're my elected representatives. Fuck 'em. They are public servants and as such are NOT entitled to silent support, no matter their color, creed, sex, sexual orientation, or how many limbs they have.

Wake up and smell the coffee? I don't drink coffee, and I don't give a fuck how it smells. Gimme some bacon. I'll be voting straight Democratic tickets in '10 and in '12. If I don't get what I heard candidates for positions that represent me advocate during their campaign, it will be the last time I do. I'm tired of getting amped up over campaign slogans.

Keep your fucking ponies. I've never been a fan of horses anyway. Not an opponent, just not a fan. Do for me and mine what you said you'd do for me and mine. Do it post haste.

Want my vote? That's how you'll keep it.

4. Peg, I hope you're feeling better!
In regard to the post, I tire so much of being told I'm not a supporter because I expect the world of my elected representatives. They're NOT royalty to whom I owe my fealty! If anything, the opposite applies... they work for US.

Love ya, and hope you're feeling better.

Thanks, sweetie...

And I agree with all your points. They are supposed to be working for US.

8. I work with kids half my age. I don't think they'd understand "wake up and smell the coffee"...
Now, if you said "wake up and smell the Red Bull", you'd get their attention.

3. I think I'm fed up with angry posts towards Obama at the moment.
Well let me be clear. Not because I think Obama is great (which I do)---because when the oil spill happen I had some problems. Allowing some Bush stuff to go by yeah, that annoys me. However, when people blame the President for the actions that are entirely related to Congress----I'm tired of it. I'm just really fed up with it. We have Blue Dogs in a good majority in the midst of very small amount of progressive Dems in the House. Then you have the amount of Conservadems who are just as bad as Repubs in the Senate---I don't know how people assume Obama, can direct and push anythign to get done when these spew the same bullshit as Repubs. They do. And I think I'm tired of this lack of understanding and I just don't see the anger that is projected towards the president projected towards the people who it should be projected towards.

Seriously, Obama doesn't make the laws, he enforces them and signs them. However, the people voting and either vetoing really great bills are part of the legistlator. It was the legislative team right now who are fucking up the repeal of DADT. If Obama had a full on progressive Congress--DADT and DOMA would have been repealed. If he had a full on pgoressive congress we'd have single payer or at least a public option. But no..we have Dems voting against his own bills---and I see no, no serious push against them. Sure there's a minor oh those stupid Dems in Congress for like a day. And then it's back to---Obama is not fighting. Obama isn't this....Obama isn't that. No.

We don't have progressives in states like Arizona or Georgia running for seats and winning. DU is a perfect example of this fail. It's like a poster posted last week on the Meeks situation. People are like Meeks has no chance of winning and are pushing for Crist on this site. And the poster was right----where was the bloody support on this site. Where is the support on this site for progressives running in minor offices in different states.

Where is the direct push to get those people in power to support our President. To give our President the back up he needs. Our voice is obviously not enough and never was, that's why we have political officials to represent us and yet we don't have people working hard enough or even the ones working hard and posting it on this site like ccharles000 being ignored, for the quickest post that gets done of recs for an Obama thread complaining he's failing us.

When Obama passed the domestic violence protection for Native Americans---there was only two threads on the site for that. I was one of them. There is this misguided anger towards Obama...when our anger should be directed to our local representatives. That's why I'm happy I'm in NYC with some great Senators albeit really shitty Congressmen. However, we need to push our elected officials and you can reserve your right to be angry at Obama. I'll reserve the right to be angry at the fact he has no back up in almost anything or his back up is not enough to get shit done.

DADT, DOMA, comprehensive health care, and so many other great things would have been done with a progressive base---and I speak about his political party. Unfortunately he doesn't have it.

5. I'm not angry with Barack Obama. Hell, I voted for him. I was pumped.
I know he doesn't make the laws... I also know it's not his job to enforce them.

14. Are you guys ever going to give up this strawman?
"...yet we don't have people working hard enough or even the ones working hard and posting it on this site like ccharles000..."

Yes, it is impossible to be trying to get a Democrat elected, even one you're not fond of (like us whiny fucking retarded progressives are supposed to) and still be critical of the party on DU. The only acceptable posts are those expressing 100% supports of the party and especially Obama.

"I'll reserve the right to be angry at the fact he has no back up in almost anything or his back up is not enough to get shit done."

There are plenty of people angry about the conservative takeover of the party, and working to change it, but then we're called whiny and unrealistic by people like you, we're told that anyone left of center "can't possibly win in red states," that we have to devote all our time and energy in getting blue dogs elected so that our side can win and then not do anything that doesn't involve negotiating away almost everything to make those blue dogs happy. Oh, but we can't complain about that, either, because that's "just how politics works" and "this isn't an academic exercise."

So what are we supposed to do here, vabrella? We're castigated for coming down on Obama, and we're castigated for suggesting that the blue dogs get tossed out in the primaries, and then we're castigated for not being super-excited for getting them elected. So, please, get together with your other good buddies around here, so quick to make sure that anyone with a discouraging word gets plenty of snide, snarky replies, and tell us exactly what we're supposed to be doing.

9. Yep, I will vote for Obama too
because a centrist is better than a neo conservative although I would prefer an acutal liberal..... and yes I too reserve the right to bitch when our public servants fuck us over. I will vote Democrat with one exception, governor of Illinois. I voted Green last time because Blago was ahead 65 to 25 over the Republicans so I figured I could vote Green (Green party got 10 percent in the election) while being sure that the Republicans would not win. This time I am voting Green because the last 2 governors, a Democrat and a Republican, both left office under a corruption scandal.

11. I think you said just about what most
Democrats feel. We can protest and Cristie our president and lay into our representatives but we will vote for them. Why??Because we know the alternative will bring more hell and damnation on this country's poor and middle class. Not the Christian Nation's Paradise they want the people to believe, fox spews constantly. I still think they should be made to get an entertainment license and give up their NEWS one.
