Obama To Propose New Jobs Program

The real significance of the Treasury's announcement that most of the bank bailout money will be returned to the government is that it can now be used to support a new jobs program.

In a speech tomorrow, CNN reports that President Obama will propose using $200 billion from TARP for "funding projects to build bridges and roads, weatherize homes, and provide other assistance for small businesses as well as the unemployed."

Chuck Todd notes the White House spin: "If it's good enough for Wall Street, then it's good enough for Main Street."

3. So all the people who like decaying bridges and drafty homes get thrown under the bus.
So much for change, Mr. Obama.

Instead of borrowing more money for unsustainable jobs, we should stop protecting and supplying tax shelters to the companies that are shipping our jobs overseas.

This does nothing to stop the next round of layoffs next year, as more and more of our manufactoring jobs will be shipped off to China and India.

Close the corporate tax loopholes and shore up health care. Stop the run away spending on 2 wars and start rewarding savers instead of encouraging more and more debt.
