Palin = Goldwater. GOP may have to wait until 2016 for "Nixon"
Edited on Mon Dec-07-09 12:02 PM by Perky
Because She has no lengthy legislative or executive records conservatives are able to see what they want to see in her and why she has a solid core of devotees on the right. If you recall this is precisely what the catcalls were about Obama before his Iowa victory. (That is where the analogy ends...because Obama has never been thought of as one with out substance). But while Palin's lack of credentials may ultimately be her undoing, given the current political environment on the right. and given the primary calendar...she is the GOP front runner for 2012 because she appeals to Southern White women for one reason and Southern white males for another, These voters have always been much more dogmatic than pragmatic. They vote for those who "share their values" and Palin even though she is from Alaska is very much like them.

But she is also presumptive for another practical reason which I think gets overlooked. It's the money game. Other potential candidates understand that a protracted primary battle will be excruciatingly expensive and self defeating when victory means you are going to face off against President Obama with a general election war chest of over $800 million. A nasty primary battle is going to suck so much out of the GOP that an effective battle in the general will be nearly impossible.

Given the disarray in the party and the hardening factionalism and how little press anyone else in the party is getting and how ideologically demanding the GOP voters are, stronger candidates may look at the landscape, the money game, the united well-funded opposition and decide to take a pass. Keep their powder dry; let Palin get the nod, and become the sacrificial lamb, let the election vanquish the Tea Partyers and the fundies and then start an effort to rebuild build the party for 2016 from scratch. In essence. Let Palin be Goldwater and become Nixon,

3. There are a lot of SWM's who think she's really HOT!
Lots of them said that both where my husband worked & where my son works. They get VERY upset when someone questions them! Of course they also listen to Limpballs and FOX all the damn time too!

4. We can only hope that she won't be so "hot" in 2016
After all, she'll be in her 50's, won't she? I hope, hope, hope that her looks go quickly because that's the ONLY reason she's as popular as she is--a teabagger's wet dream. Ugh. I feel like taking a shower just typing that... :scared:

5. Not sure I agree. Can Newt really afford to wait? He's 66 now.
Can Fred Thompson afford to wait? What about Gulliani and Mitt? Their egos are too big to wait. Santorum, Jindal, and Huckabee aren't smart enough to wait.

6. The Newtster will never get the nod from the Pubs. Romney
"might" if he's given the right circumstances. I also quesion that Sister Sarah could ever win. She'd probably get the fundy vote, but there are a lot of pubs who are not vocal like the tea baggers are but know Sarah would be a disaster worse than Shrub!

8. Sarah will kill some credible GOP candidate's changes in the primary.
That's about as far as she can go.

7. Sarah Palin = Barry Goldwater is an insult to Goldwater
Say what you will about him, but Goldwater never quit anything. The only thing that Palin is going to do is "write" more books and become a fox correspondent for the 2012 elections.
